  2. I'm sorry your mom is having to endure such discomfort. I found a like to the Minnesota hospice Bill of Rights which may help you in deling with the hospice supervisor, although I second the opinion about getting another hospice organization in there ASAP! http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/fpc/ ... ng_reg.pdf Susan
  3. Welcome Chelee! It sounds like you have gotten some good information already. You see why we ALL love Randy W around here! I'm so sorry that as you are fighting your own battle, you also have to fight your mom's. Another excellent resource is www.onctalk.com. Dr. West, an excellent oncologist in Seattle runs it and he has a wealth of information and is willing to answer questions. It has been from reading his board and this one that I know what questions to ask my Mom's oncologist. As you well know--all cancer patients need an advocate. Let us know what the dr says on Thursday. Until then I will keep you both in my prayers. Susan
  4. Teri, Reading Bill's tribute made me smile. I hope the memories you have and his presence in your heart will sustain you with smiles through the days ahead. Susan
  5. Deb, Welcome to our little corner of the Internet! Feel free to ask lots of questions. Someone on the board has likely experienced whatever you want to know about. The support here is tremebdous. Susan
  6. I'm so sorry for your loss. Susan

  9. Prayers are coming your way! Susan ps--I'll be thinking about you as you wait--the toughest part!
  10. I want to say that mom started feeling relief in 7-10 days. I hope it will be faster for your Mom since she is in so much pain. Susan
  11. Jennifer--Your mom has a great daughter to be looking our for her like you are. You will learn a lot here to help her and to help you through this journey. Susan
  12. Lee Ann--There is much hope for your uncle! You will learn a lot here and will meet a lot of long-term survivors. The fact that it was caught early is excellent! Susan ps--I'm in Alabama too--War Eagle!
  13. Grammy--WOW! I love your story. Thanks for sharing it and I only have one additional thing to say. . . GO GRAMMY GO! Susan

    great news

  16. Ok Aaron, that eye patch is going to be sexy! But the eye strain could be stress. My mom has "ocular" migranes. She has blurred vision and auras but no headache. She was having them right before her last scan, but once she got the results (good news) she hasn't had another one. I'd get checked to make sure, but it could be stress (hmm, first trial, treatment, being scared---nope, no stress there). Susan
  17. I'm glad the news is better. It sounds like the hospital is where your mom needs to be right now--if nothing more than so she can get a good night's sleep. Thinking of you, Susan
  18. I will be keeping your father in my prayers. ((((Hugs)))) Susan
  19. My mom took some ibuprophen with her spine mets and that helped a little, but not a whole lot. The good news is that once the radiation starts the pain relief comes pretty quickly. I don't think heat or ice will help on this one. if she has stronger pain meds, this weekend would be a good time to use them. Susan
  20. Thanks Randy! I think Bill has pretty much stoppd posting by the time I joined in March, so it was great to "hear" his voice. I've gotten to know him and Teri through Teri's posts and they have both been an inspiration. Susan
  21. What a great tribute to your mom! And those girls are adorable!! Thinking about you today especially, Susan
  22. Michelle, I'm glad you found us, although I hate that you had to. Sometimes the psychiological side effects can be as bad or worse than the physical. My mom got tired and achy from the Carbo/Taxol (hers were once every 21 days, but what really got her was the change in her appearance--no hair, no eyelashes, no eyebrows, and a rash on her face a couple days after chemo. I know that was harder on her than the physical effects from the chemo. It's part of the "new normal" so don't be surprised if your dad has as many psychological saide effects as he does physical. Susan
  23. John--sounds like you are taking an aggressive approach. Looking forward to hearing that it is successful! Susan

    News about Bill

Teri, My eyes are filled with tears. I came to the board this afternoon worried because we had not heard from you in awhile. It's so hard to know what to say. I'm so sorry that Bill is gone, but at the same time, I'm so glad he is at peace. I can't imagine how you are feeling now, but please know that I am lifting you up in prayer for strength and for comfort. Thank you for sharing Bill's humor, his spirit, and his courage. Please let us know how you are doing. We will be here for any support we can give to you. Love, Susan
