  1. I would be happy to tell my story in the hopes of even keeping 1 person from smoking. I will contact him tonight. God Bless, MO
  2. Welcome to a family you never thought you would belong to. This is a great group of people who always have each others best interest at heart and will stand by you through everything. Please feel free to ask questions, vent or just speak your mind. Non small cell is a slow growing cancer so you do have a little more time in making decision but I would still opt for a second opinion if you are not comfortable with your Doctors. Are they doing anything for your lack of blood O2? Is it caused from lack of lung power or lack of red blood cells? That would make a big difference I would think. I get a shot of Arenesp every other week to boost my red cells which helps and from time to time I have gotten a transfussion of red cells which REALLY helps (for a week or so anyway). Prayers headed your way and best wishes. God Bless, MO

Joey, Is she going to have this WITH the current chemo or are they stopping chemo? Just wondering. God Bless, MO
  4. (((((Shirley))))), I am so sorry you have to face this. As with any big event the first is always the hardest but even knowing that doesn't help much. I will be thinking of you and I am sure Randy will be watching to see a smile from some happy memories! God Bless, MO

  6. I find I am always sob when I do physical labor anymore but mine is also from lack of red blood cells and not that I can't process O2. Maybe you need you blood counts checked? HIRE someone to mow the lawn. I got a guy from our local homeless shelter that comes and does mine for $20. He loves the cash and I love NOT having to do it, lol. Still take care of my plants cause I can sit on the ground by the flowr bed to do that, lol. God Bless, MO
  7. As I have not had surgery I can't answer your questions but I do Welcome you to the family! Great group of people and I am sure someone will have the information you seek. God Bless, MO

  12. Platelets cause clotting as has been said. Mine are right now at 79 (should be between 150-450) so I was only able to get a small amount of one of my Chemos yesterday. I have had 1 platelet transfussion so far (5 blood transfusions) so I guess I am doing ok. I did notice it took 4 days for a very small cut on my finger to "scab" over last week so that is a good indication they are low. Ususally the say NOT to shave or to be extra carefull when using a knife, common sense things. Watch for pitecia (sp) small red spots on the skin, any bruising, bleeding gums, etc, all these should be reported to the DR asap. Best wishes to your brother! God Bless, MO
  13. Thanks for all the support folks, lol. I have asked my Dr. about the sugar deal and he tells me to eat what I want, when I want. I guess with sclc they don't think it is going to make THAT much of a difference in the time line of things. I do try and limit the amount of sugar I have. Aspertame give me a killer headache so it is not an option. I drink no sodas, use a very small amount in morning coffee (down to 1 cup), cut desserts or stick to fruit (yeah I know there is sugar there too) BUT I also know if I DON'T eat a goodie once in awhile I WILL sit down and eat a 2# bag of Oreos at some point cause I just can't help myself!!!! So, I guess a Hersey Kiss once in awhile isn't going to kill me huh??? Anyway, thanks for the advice and I will just have to get Kayden to eat his goodies up faster!! God Bless, MO
  14. David, I am just over 10 months and I also have become one of those militant ex smokers. I have to go in to the hospital every day for a shot and I always walk through a cloud of smoke from people smoking in and area that is clearly marked NO SMOKING. I have made several comments to them and also to the security guard on duty. He usually goes out and ask's them to move. What I REALLY hate is seeing a group of Doctors and Nurses standing in the smoking area having a cig!! I do agree that quitting is one of the hardest things I have ever done and I thank God for giving me the strengh and conviction to see another day through without a cig. God Bless, MO
  15. HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! I had chemo today with my decadron "pre med" and I can't stop eating!!!!!! Always happens on chemo day, lol, but right now we have an easter basket that I am sure weighs in at about 10 pounds sitting on the kitchen table. It's all I can do to not sit down and start in, lol. I have been good so far and only had a couple pieces (yes I know sugar is bad for me) but it looks soooooooooo good! What do you all do to avoid goodies?? I think cutting out the treats is worse / harder than quitting smoking sometimes!!! God Bless, MO
  16. I see a TP party headed that way soon if we don't see David is his Spring finery!!
  17. I agree with Don. Once we have accepted the cancer dx we will always have that nagging thought in the back of the brain. The trick is to live the BEST life we can trying to keep that IN THE BACK of the mind. Yes, sclc has a very good chance of coming back BUT if you have been clear for 2 years you are doing WONDERFUL!! I would praise God (as I do every day) and thank him for giving me that much more time. You are beating the he** out of "The statistics" so HE isn't done with YOU yet either! Prayers for continued NED being sent your way!! God Bless, MO

    Iressa & Cytoxan

Chrissy, I am so sorry the chemo has not been working for your husband and has caused more problems. He (and you) will be in my prayers. God Bless, MO
  19. Gay-Anne, Welcome and yes, she does have a chance of beating this. We all stand a chance of beating what we have. Do NOT listen to statistics. DO listen to the advice of the Dr. and if you don't feel they are giving the best advice, seek a second opinion (good idea anyway). Since it is just in the lung it will be classified as limited stage and that usually responds well to first line chemo. She has my prayers and best wishes. God Bless, MO
  20. Hi all, Today was chemo day and since I was able to maintain my platelets at 79 (should be between 150 and 450) I got a lower dose of Carbo than normal. My Dr. Said he was "amazed" that the Taxol and Carbo were keeping things in check and that I was doing "as well" as I am. Didn't know it THAT was a good thing or not, lol. I have a CT scan on Monday and will know next week how my liver is doing. Lymph in neck is about the same or maybe a tad bit smaller than last check up so that was good news. CT scan will also show if it is diverticulitus I have been suffering from or if there is something else going on in my bowels. For now I continue at work and at home with my Grandson and doing what HE leads me to do. God's Blessings on you all, MO
  21. Jane, I am sorry you have to be here but this IS the best place on the net to get information and support while your family battles this beast! MY OPINION ONLY............... Get a second opinion from a Doctor who is willing to be aggresive in treatment. I did PCI and it is not for everyone but in MY case I wanted every opportunity available to beat this before it could beat me (so far I am ahead)! It should be your Fathers decision as to what types of treatment he takes and that why I would suggest the second opinion. Prayers for strength and healing being sent his way (and yours). God Bless, MO

Beth, Nothing that YOU do can change the outcome of what your husband is going through (my opinion). Please do not feel guilty for wanting the best treatment available for the man you love! Hopefully the new chemo will relieve some of the side effects and he will enjoy a better quality of life. Bowel problems are NOT something to overlook as they can lead to more severe problems (been there, done that). Prayers for strength and healing headed your way. God Bless, MO
  23. Thank you for the update. Please let them know they have a lot of people praying for them. God Bless, MO
