  1. My problem is that I don't sweat very much so I tend to get very overheated. Now my hubby - the sweat just pours off him. And Bud - with our insurance we have a $75 copay for the ER and we were there about 4 hours total. Now we saved about $1200 doing the liner ourselves. So we're still ahead of the game BUT both of us have said - never again!! Paulette
  2. Congratulations on 8 years Cindy! Hopefully someday I can say the same! Paulette
  3. Good morning everyone. First day of summer and it's suppose to get to 95 here - who knows what the heat index will be. Well we got the pool liner installed. And it's full of water. Hurrah!! But ..... last Wednesday I was helping hubby get the pool ready for the liner (we had to glue the foam to the block walls, put new gaskets in, etc) and I got too hot. That's happened twice before but the last time was in 1995 because I've learned to watch for it - however Wednesday I let it go too far and ended up with heat exhaustion again and in the ER again having an IV with fluids. If you've never had heat exhaustion believe me you don't want it! It's the sickest I've ever felt. Even worse than chemo!! Yuck!! But after getting the fluids and resting for a couple of days I'm back to normal (whatever that is), just very leary of even going outside for any length of time. I hope everyone has a wonderful day! Quotes

Katie, I've often wondered when to count my suvivorship from? Some count from surgery or finishing chemo, etc. But I like your quote. That means I've survived since April 2009 when I was first diagnosed. Paulette

  10. Good morning everyone! It's 73 here and suppose to go the the mid 90s. We had a bad thunderstorm last night but we needed the rain so we just have to put up with the thunder and lightening. Not much going on here - we're waiting for the pool liner to come in and then the fun begins! I just hope we don't have any problems installing it. I say "we" but I'm hoping hubby gets enough other help that he won't need me to help! lol Judy MI - I'm sending hugs and good thoughts your way. Wish I was nearer to you - I really enjoyed our conversations in DC. Judy KW - I'm so glad you were able to work in your orchid room. Is that good therpy for you? I love flowers but I have a black thumb! I can kill anything if I touch it. Annette - how did your nephew enjoy his trip yesterday? Did he behave himself? And did you spring your mom from rehab? Take care all!! Paulette
  11. I'm with you Cindy. I also try to enjoy each day and treasure life now more than before. Paulette
  12. Hi all, It's 91 but heat index is 104. I'm thinking of moving to Alaska! Hubby has been outside this morning adding an inline clorinator (sp?) for the pool - that's the thingy you put the 3" tablets into to add clorine to the pool. On Monday we ordered the liner - $902. Then we went to a pool supply place and purchased all the gaskets and faceplates we have to replace - another $200. Now "all" we have to do is install the liner when it comes. I am NOT looking forward to that. I told Charlie (hubby) that he had better get at least 3 or 4 more people to help. I don't do well being outside in hot weather. But if we can get this thing installed ourselves we will save $1200. JudyKW - I know you're glad to be going home. There is no place like home, especially when you don't feel good. Annette - A small break for you on Saturday from Marco. I hope the Boys to Men group will be a positive influence on him. Lily - I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Hope you get rid of that cold soon. JudyMI - Hi! Always good to see you here. Congratulations on being the M&M of your niece's wedding. Sara - I hope you're doing well today. Heather - where are you? You've disappeared!!! Bud - glad you're still exercising for us and now you're fishing for us as well. We should eat good now. Katie - it's so good just to 'know' you're home. Welcome back! If I've missed anyone I'm sorry. I hope all of you have a great day. Paulette
  13. This put a big smile on my face! Great news Judy!! Paulette
  14. How wonderful Cindy!! Wooooohooooo!!!! Paulette
  15. Cindy, I'm only 2 years out from surgery and I see my oncologist not my surgeon every 6 months. But I think that even 10 years out it would scare me to death to be realeased. I'm not a lot of help because I don't have an answer for you but I just wanted you to know that I'd feel just like you do. Paulette
  16. How wonderful!! Put a smile on my face! Paulette
  17. Good morning all! It's suppose to get to the middle 90s here today and even hotter later this week. Bruce - it's a shame that y'all can't get some rain. It always seems like either a place gets too much rain or none. We were in a bad drought a couple of years ago. There is a local lake nearby and you couldn't even launch boats because the lake level was so low. Bud - you still amaze me the way you ride your bike. I am in awe of you. Judy - so good to see you opening the air again. You were missed so much while you were gone. I hope you get untethered soon and do very well breathing without your oxygen. I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day weekend. We just hung around the house - too hot to be outside. Paulette
  18. Stephanie, What wonderful news. I'm so happy for you. Stable is very good. You're in my prayers also. Paulette
  19. 1. If walking/cycling is good for your health, the postman would be immortal. 2. A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water and is fat. 3. A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 15 years. 4. A tortoise doesn't run, barely walks & does nothing ..yet lives for 450 years. And you want me to exercise????
  20. Ah Judy - your post brings tears to my eyes. That song was beautiful last night and that is exactly how I'm trying to live. Take care my friend! Paulette
  21. Good morning all! It's 81 here, expected to reach 92. I think North Carolina skipped spring. Katie - I know your son will really enjoy riding with the policeman. And he'll then have bragging rights too! JudyKW - hope your doctor appointment goes well. Bud - I'm so glad you're back to exercising for us. Hubby has just about decided to install the pool liner ourselves (with help from the grandsons). It would save us about $1200 but it scares me to death because if "we" screw up badly we're screwed! lol Right now we're trying to measure the pool. It sounds easy but it's not, especially when it's over half full of water. You have to measure every slope and the square part in the deep end, etc etc. What fun! NOT!! I hope everyone is have way more fun than I'm having today. Paulette
  22. Before I was diagnosed with lung cancer I had a good life. After I was diagnosed with lung cancer I have a blessed life. I am blessed because I know who truly loves me and who will stand by/with me no matter what. If I had not had cancer would I have known this? I like to think I would have but I took the people who mean the most to me for granted. Never will I ever do that again. I hope that no occasion arises that I have to be one of their caregivers but if it does - please God let me take care of them as well as I was taken care of. What has having lung cancer taught you? Paulette
  23. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR KATIE HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUU!!!!!!! I hope you have a wonderful day! Hugs, Paulette
  24. I'd love to have a drink by our pool - except we opened it yesterday to find that the liner ripped over winter so now we have to have that replaced - to the tune of $2400. Yikes!!! I think it may be a few weeks before the pool will be swimable (is that a word?). I hope all of you stay safe in all these storms that are all over the US, especially in the midwest. Here - right now - it's just plain HOT. Annette - I don't envy you with the nephew. And on top of that your mom is still in the hospital and will be there for a while it sounds like. I did read Judy's F.E.A.R. It was so powerful and really makes you think. Giving a shout out to JudyKW, Bud, Eric, KatieB, Sara, Lilly - sorry if I missed anyone - I have CRS!! Paulette
  25. Good morning everyone! Judy - it's good to come here and see you opening the air. I hope you're able to get off the oxygen sooner than the doctors expect. I wish you could have been in DC - I would have loved to meet you - and then I wouldn't have been the oldest there (yep - I'm 64 - how did that happen?) Lily - I'm like you. I much prefer a smaller church than the big ones. Katie - how are you this morning? And how did your meeting go last night? Did you end up having to eat that cheesecake by yourself? Bud - Pixie is so cute! She would look good in any t-shirt! lol I hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday. Paulette
