  1. I'm sitting here crying for all of you who are living "with" cancer. Even though I always have the fear that cancer will re-occur in me I, at the moment, am one of those who is living "after" cancer. And I treasure each day and live as much as I can to the fullest. I've become so close to y'all - my Lungevity family. I can't stand the thought of losing any more of you to this disease!! So - I pray - a lot. Judy MI - I feel for you too - dealing with Randy on top of everything else. What happened to 'in sickness and in health'? None of us are the same people we were when we first got married. I'm sure Randy isn't either! I don't have any solutions or advice for you - just know we're here for you - as much as we can be. I'm sending you a great big virtual hug. Wish I could give it to you in person. Paulette
  2. Good Morning all! Eric - I've followed you on your travels across the US and I have to say - you are an amazing guy. You never meet a stranger and everyone seems to love you just as we all do. I wish I could have met you while you were here. How has Sally been doing since you've been away? Judy MI - I'm so sorry you had those horrible spasms in your foot this morning. I hope you get to take a nice relaxing nap today with no pains! Katie - I've been looking at all the pictures from the Seattle walk. Thanks for posting them. I dearly love Sara's wig! I bet you are tired! You never stop. Maybe it's time for another vacation. The weather here has been better for about 4 days now. Highs in the low 90s and thunderstorms in the evenings that cool us off even more. I told one of my neighbors that I spent all summer complaining about the heat and now I'll probably spend all winter complaining about the cold. Enjoy your Sunday! Paulette
  3. Good morning all! I'm back home from visiting my sister. We had a blast without doing much of anything but we did go visit a couple of our older cousins that I hadn't seen in at least 10 years. And we went to eat at Red Lobster. Yummy!! Judy KW I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for good results for you today! Judy MI - did you finally contact your doctor about your nausea? Hope you're feeling wonderful today for your special day. Katie - did you leave for Seattle yet? When you meet up with Stephanie, Sara and Eric will you give them a big hug from me? Paulette
  4. Happy Birthday dear Judy!!!
  5. Katie, On your way to Seattle you could divert the airplane to Charlotte. I'll drive to the airport and give you a great big hug. Paulette
  6. Welcome Dee. I was staged 1B (because of the size) and had my upper left lobe removed. I did have chemo (again because of the size). It's been 2 years and 3 months for me since surgery. In the beginning I worried about it coming back every time I got a sniffle or an ache. Now I only worry when it's close to time for a scan. I get what we call here scanxiety. But I also tell myself that I am actually in the best health of my life because if anything is wrong my doctors will find it with all the tests I go through. Having lung cancer made me realize that you need to live each day to the fullest because you never really know what the future holds. And try not to sweat the small stuff! Paulette
  7. Dawn, No one should have to worry about all that while also going through chemo. I really feel for you and hope you get some relief soon. Paulette
  8. Today is suppose to be our hottest day yet - forecast is 100. I don't even want to know what the heat index is. And, of course, since it is the hottest day our central air stopped working! Yikes!!! The AC guy came out and fixed it. I was afraid it would be bunches of money but it was only $180. And since we found it early it only went up to 82 in the house. Now it's cooling down again. I hope everyone else is staying cool in the heat. Paulette
  9. Hi all! I'm not doing much today - just hanging around the house. Hubby is out cutting grass. Too hot for me to be out there. Judy MI - I hate that you still have the nausea. I hope you find out what's causing it soon so you can get rid of it. Don't get overheated out there today! Alan - Happy Anniversary to you and Susan. Our next one (2/14/12) will be our 30th. Bud - you absolutely amaze me. I just don't know how you ride as much as you do much less do it in the heat! My hero! I guess I was lucky with the $$$ for my lung cancer. We have insurance through my hubby's company and the year I had the surgury and chemo we had to pay out $5000 total but all over that was paid. I think now I have to pay $125 when I have a CT scan and the doctor's copay. Next Feb I will turn 65 (OMG) and Medicare will be my primary insurance with hubby's being my supplemental so I don't know how that will affect what we pay. I hope everyone has a wonderful day! Paulette
  10. Hello all! Judy KW - when do you and Stan go on your trip? Up to NJ and PA again? I can't wait for cooler weather so we can take the RV to the beach again. Everyone asks why we don't go now since we have AC in it but I tell them that if I'm going to have to stay indoors because of the heat and humidity then I might as well stay home. Your fried potatoes sound yummy! Sara - Your fish fry sounds just as yummy and I'm not on steroids! I remember when I was and telling my oncologist that I was eating everything in the house except the furniture. He told me that your oncologist is the one doctor that will never complain about weight gain. Here I am 2 years later and I still haven't lost what I gained. Janet - I know what you mean about being happy to be alone. It does seem that when you least feel like having company that's when they show up and while you appreciate them thinking of you sometimes you just don't feel like "entertaining". Judy MI - Is Randy ok after the radio fiasco? Lilly - I hope you get to feeling better really soon. That cold has been giving you fits for a while now. Ronnie - great picture of the snow. It seems we spend all summer complaining about the heat and all winter complaining about the cold or snow. lol Katie - I'll try to do better - lol - love ya! Eric - hope you made it to Minneapolis okay. I enjoy reading about your trips and seeing your pictures. Paulette
  11. Hi everyone! I've been reading the air every day but not contributing lately. I don't know why. I'm already sick of the heat. But enjoying the pool with it's new liner! It's looks wonderful and new. Some days the water feels like bath water tho with the temps being so high. We've also been enjoying our small garden. A couple of years ago hubby built some raised garden boxes (mainly because the dirt here is hard red clay) and we plant tomatoes, squash, bell peppers and this year some okra. Everything has done well this year as long as we water it every couple of days. We need rain. Paulette
  12. Judy, Your post put a big smile on my face this morning. I'm so happy for you!! Paulette
  13. When the husband finally died his wife put the usual death notice in the paper, but added that he died of gonorrhea. No sooner were the papers delivered when a friend of the family phoned and complained bitterly, "You know very well that he died of diarrhea, not gonorrhea." Replied the widow, "I nursed him night and day so of course I know he died of diarrhea, but I thought it would be better for posterity to remember him as a great lover rather than the big shi_ he always was." ----------------------------------------------------- An elderly couple were on a cruise and it was really stormy. They were standing on the back of the boat watching the moon, when a wave came up and washed the old woman overboard. They searched for days and couldn't find her, so the captain sent the old man back to shore with the promise that he would notify him as soon as they found something. Three weeks went by and finally the old man got a fax from the boat. It read: "Sir, sorry to inform you, we found your wife dead at the bottom of the ocean. We hauled her up to the deck and attached to her butt was an oyster and in it was a pearl worth $50,000 . please advise." The old man faxed back: "Send me the pearl and re-bait the trap." ----------------------------------------------------- A funeral service is being held for a woman who has just passed away. At the end of the service, the pall bearers are carrying the casket out when they accidentally bump into a wall, jarring the casket . They hear a faint moan. They open the casket and find that the woman is actually alive! She lives for ten more years, and then dies. Once again, a ceremony is held, and at the end of it, the pall bearers are again carrying out the casket. As they carry the casket towards the door, the husband cries out, "Watch that wall!" ----------------------------------------------------- When I went to lunch today, I noticed an old lady sitting on a park bench sobbing her eyes out. I stopped and asked her what was wrong. She said, "I have a 22 year old husband at home. He makes love to me every morning and then gets up and makes me pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit and freshly ground coffee." I said, "Well, then why are you crying?" She said, "He makes me homemade soup for lunch and my favorite brownies and then makes love to me for half the afternoon. I said, "Well, why are you crying?" She said, "For dinner he makes me a gourmet meal with wine and my favorite dessert and then makes love to me until 2:00 a.m." I said, "Well, why in the world would you be crying?" She said, "I can't remember where I live!"
  14. The Bathtub Test It doesn't hurt to take a hard look at yourself from time to time, and this should help get you started. During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criterion was which defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalized. "Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub." "Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup." "No." said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?" DID YOU PASS, OR DO YOU WANT THE BED NEXT TO MINE?
  15. AMAZING SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES: 1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP. 2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK. 3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER. 4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON. 5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH. 6. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40.. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE. 7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
  16. When I was at the Hope Summit 'this' meant a lot to me. I had not ever been around other lung cancer survivors and it was great to talk to people who knew exactly what I had been through. I don't normally talk about my lung cancer - I figure people don't want to hear about it so I don't talk about it a lot. I do talk about funding for lung cancer research whenever I get a chance. Paulette
  17. Karen, I am so very thrilled for you. What wonderful news!! Paulette
  18. A cannibal was walking through the jungle and came upon a restaurant operated by a fellow cannibal. Feeling somewhat hungry, he sat down and looked over the menu.... Tourist: $5.00 Broiled Missionary: $10.00 Fried Explorer: $15.00 Baked Democrat or Grilled Republican: $100.00 The cannibal called the waiter over and asked, "Why such a high price for the Politicians?" The cook replied, "Have you ever tried to clean one? They're so full of crap, it takes all morning."
