  5. Hi Heather~ I totally know the staring off into space look. I think that depression is at play here and there are many medications that she can try. It really helped my mom!! Good luck! Kelly
  6. Hi Alicia~ Welcome to the best support site ever! I'm sorry that we have to meet under such tough circumstances! After my mom had surgery, her heart raced several different times but they finally had it controlled w/ meds. She is on Alimta as well but hasn't had heart or blood pressure problems. I have noticed her being more SOB and had more of a wet cough but that might not have anything to do w/ the Alimta as she said that it's hard for her to catch her breath when the pain is bad and she has been having a lot of pain lately. I hope that you are able to find out what is going on! Kelly
  7. I have not heard of it. Good luck in finding out info on it. Keep us posted!!! Kelly

  10. Hi everyone, My mom is in a lot more pain in upper back, right shoulder, arm and neck. She can't stand up straight without pain so consequently, she hunches over when she walks or stands. She sits or is laying on her back most of the time. She has her eyes closed a lot and said that moving around is getting harder. She is on taking a lot of pain meds. I don't think the Alimta is working at all. She wasn't doing well Christmas Eve or Christmas Day or yesterday. Supposedly, she is doing better today. She and my dad are still at my sister's house out of state until about Jan. 5 and I am now back in Pittsburgh. Should I call her onc.??? I am really worried!! She is getting scanned Jan. 8 and has appt. on Jan. 11. Thanks to all of you!
  11. My mom had a pancoast tumor removed in 2004 and has had progression so she now has upper back, shoulder and arm pain from it. She had cyber knife which helped. I would get it looked at!!! Kelly
  12. Flowergirlie~ I am so sorry for ALL of this! My 2 cents is that patients should be told their situation BUT I also think that sometimes it can hurt if the "give up" when they think there is no hope. You are in my prayers! Kelly

  14. Kelly, I am so sorry to hear about the progression! My mom is on Alimta now as well after there was progression. She is doing well with it! Her first treatment really kicked her butt! She was so tired about 3-4 days after and it lasted for about 5 days BUT the next two treatments were much, much better!! She takes Decadron the day before, the day of and the day after. I was very worried about the Alimta after hearing really bad things but that hasn't been our experience. I pray that yours will be good too! Keep me posted!! Kelly
  15. AstraZeneca announced the start of enrollment into a new Phase III study of the novel once-daily oral anti-cancer drug vandetanib (Zactima,ZD6474) as third/fourth line treatment for patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have progressed following EGFR TKI therapy. Study 44 will be conducted at 208 centers across 23 countries worldwide, and is expected to enroll more than 930 patients. It will evaluate overall survival with vandetanib 300mg plus best supportive care (BSC) compared with placebo plus BSC in patients with advanced NSCLC, who have previously received treatment with chemotherapy and an epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR TKI). The study will also assess progression free survival, objective response rate, disease control rate, duration of response, effect on disease related symptoms, and safety and tolerability of vandetanib. Principal Investigator Dr. Jin Soo Lee, National Cancer Centre, Gyeonggi, Korea, commented, "There are currently very limited treatment options available for patients after their cancer has progressed on second line treatment. Phase II studies have demonstrated promising anti-tumor efficacy with vandetanib in lung cancer, and Study 44 will now investigate if this multi-targeted agent can improve outcomes for patients." Study 44 forms part of an extensive ongoing clinical development program of vandetanib in NSCLC and is the third Phase III study for vandetanib in NSCLC to have begun patient enrollment this year. Vandetanib works by inhibiting both the development of the tumor's blood supply through inhibition of VEGFR (antiangiogenesis) and the growth and survival of the tumor itself through inhibition of EGFR.
