  2. Yes , let the dancing begin! Great News. Donna G
  3. Ben so glad you found us. We all know what an emotional roller coaster this disease brings. Sometimes a little denial can help us cope . It is so great that she has you to help her pick up the slack and do research. It is good to have someone go to the doctor with her and take notes or record , it is so hard to "hear" what the doctor has to say , all at once. Keep us posted. Donna G
  4. Any chance you have a pancoast tumor? When you say vocal cord paralysis that is what rings my bell. With a pancoast tumor presure or involvement of the nerve can cause this. Is the tumor in the left apex of your lung? Way up high? This site decribes this sympton http://www.emedicine.com/radio/topic515.htm Donna G
  5. FALSE ALARM! That sounds like Good News. WE really like that. Donna G
  6. I had a CT guided needle biopsy , not thoracoscopy, for diagnosis so I can't help there but I do know that you still need a chest tube to help with the reinflation of the lung. I had a Lobectomy by thorocotomy and my chest tube was out by the 4th day and I was home. If they only need to use the scope, they don't break ribs etc it is a minimal incision and much less discomfort. We have a doctor here in the twin cities that in certain cases can even take the entire lung out with a scope . These people also have a lot less pain because of the minimal incisions. This works on people that have a smaller tumor, not near vital organs as the heart or blood vessels, have had no chemo or radiation and their doctor has had the training on how to do this. Hope all goes well for your husband. Donna G
  7. Terri, so sorry. Praying for you and your family. Donna G
  8. Kelly, great news. keep us posted. Donna G
  9. This am on TV they said that a long term study done on nurses by Harvard found that Those that ate brocoli, dark greens as lettuce, have better memories. Some of us could use help in that area. As we have discussed before these are good in reversing lung damage that could lead to lung cancer. EAT IT ALL UP Donna G
  10. There have been studies showing that people with diagnosis originally as Stage I may benefit from chemo. There are doctors working on tests that would find micrometastasis. The current advise is to have chemo for about 40 % will have regrowth from the tumor in the first year. http://ats.ctsnetjournals.org/cgi/conte ... t/74/1/278 This means that you also have a 60 % chance of total cure but many don't want to take the risk when they know and opt for chemo. 12. Endoscopy, I would think. Donna G
  13. Just having lung cancer puts you at risk for blood clots.,. Many are first diagnosed with blood clots , then have a CT to see if they have thrown an emboli to the lungs and low and behold they find a tumor in the lung. Praying that all is better soon. Donna G
  14. I know there is a prep that can be made ( liquid) that coats your esophagus , I think it has maalox and lidocaine and something else mixed together. Donna G

  21. There probably many things you can do to decrease your chances of getting lung cancer. There are also many things you can do to enhance the chances of surviving lung cancer. Nutrition is important. What you breath is important. There are many things you can do to increase your quality of life after having lung cancer. There are lots of things that will give you more of a sense of being in control. So far the only thing that works to get rid of it once you have it is surgery, chemo andor radiation for your first line of attack. This is about the exercise to increase lung capacity after fighting lung cancer or any lung disease. http://www.cancernetwork.com/journals/p ... p0011h.htm Donna G
  22. I would bet that the people at the school would pitch in , most of us need some help when we are going through treatment. People at my church not only prayed for me ( which I think is very important) but drove me the times they had to medicate me and I was not to drive, offered meals, listened when I needed an ear, etc. Depression seems to be a part of this stessful illness. Along the way it is likely that she will benefit from an antidepressent pill. Sometimes it seems like we are not "facing" our illness but I think it is so stressful, there is a limit to how much one can cope with at a time. Denial, in other words, can be protective for a while. If you can go to appointments with the Doctor and take notes or a recorder that would be great, it is hard to "hear" all that stessful news also. Now keep in touch and let us know how things are going. Donna G
  23. Donna is my real name, actually Donna Marie. G my last initial. My last name is very longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg. Years ago at work we had to go by our last name. People would forget what they wanted to ask by the time they got my name out so it became common practice to just say " Mrs. G" Donna G

    Excuse me ~~

When I was growing up my mother used to say that any one that swears is ignorant, they don't know any other way of expressing themselves. She would be suprised how many ignorant people there are today. I think it is a habit that they get into and don't really "hear " themselves. I know in the hospital every once in a while people need to be reminded this is not exceptable in our work environment ( or anywhere else). Donna G
  25. Wow , you have been busy!. Great to have you back. Donna G
