I wanted to add also that my mom's tumor never completely disappeared (NSCLC), but her doctors consider her in remission. They say the tumor left over is 'dead' and should pose no threat. Granted I wish it was completely gone, but I am happy with her being in remission. And her tumor was HUGE so I guess it makes sense. Karen

Well said Teri! We all need our pity parties and spa days every now and then. And though I wish nodoby ever had to fight this disease ever again I do understand how it makes you TRULY appreciate a simple poker party, run to the movies or good laugh with friends. Way to put cancer in the back seat! Just keep driving around with the top down and I'm sure it will fly out soon! Karen

I agree with the others. Nobody wants to have this talk but I think it was a good thing. I am glad your mom is more at peace now and I hope her time remaining is clear-headed and without paranoia. I hope you are also more at peace now as well. You've had a lot going on lately. Please remember to take some time to take care of yourself too! Karen

Just tell her to eat anything that will go down. If that means ice cream for breakfast lunch and dinner then that is fine. I think it is more important to maintain her weight than to worry about nutrition at this point. We encouraged mom to do the boost shakes until she just could not choke them down anymore. Carnation instant breakfast drink also has the calories and nutrients but tasted better to mom than the boost. For some reason my mom had issues with the softer foods and could choke down the harder ones (even chips). Bread was a real issue so instead of sandwiches we just rolled the meat in the cheese. Carafate was a big help but Mom said it was the worst tasting med she ever had (and sometimes it just ruined her appetite). Good Luck! Karen

I'm so sorry Nick. I wish I could make this easier for you. Your mom raised a great son. I know you hate the idea of raising kids without her around to help, but I KNOW you are going to be a GREAT dad (when the time comes). She's already given you a wonderful example to follow, and though it will be sad to go through something so big without her, she's already given you all the tools you need. You are a patient, compassionate, caring person and that's all it takes to make a great dad. The other stuff will all fall into place, you will see. Karen

I have heard of that once before on this board where the doc did say that it was most likely a piece of tumor. ANY way to get rid of the tumor sounds like a good plan to me! Karen
