  1. Hello Dean, Welcome, glad you found us, first off Judy's right, ya hav'nt been diagnosed yet so I'll keep my fingers crossed and say a prayer for you. Your symptoms, however sound much like mine. I also had the pneumonia in the left lung which was caused by an obstructive tumor. That was in March of 2001 and I was 50 years young at the time.. I was shortly afterward diagnosed with NSCLC - squamous type. My left lung was removed a few weeks later. We took the family pic 8 weeks after they took out the lung, I was hiking in the rainforests of Costa Rica. I move a bit slower these days but the point is I do just fine. The message is this disease is survivable, so hand in there and know your not alone. Again welcome, glad you found us, hoping it's not cancer but if it is you don't have to go through it alone!!! Were all here for ya. God bless and be well Bobmc- NSCLC- stageIIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

  10. Hello; I get the shots, been getting the flu shot for the last 8 years and have had no problems. I made the appointment yesterday, I go in next Tues for it. I was given the pneumonia shot 2 years ago, mine is suppose to be good for 5 years. But, I'll double check with the doc. I was told not only to get it but get it early, both the flu and pneumonia are respiratory illnesses and with 1-lung why take chances. God bless and be well Bobmc- NSCLC- stageIIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"
  11. Hi Nance, Just went through this back in May. Experienced alot of back and shoulder pain that shot down my left arm. Made it real hard to move my arm. Tormented the hell out of me. My doc scheduled a bone scan, a bunch of x-rays and another blood test. The bone test showed no cancer( thank God) but did show a bit of arthritis. Like you probable do, I have alot of scar tissue, I think much of the pain comes from that and things just kind of shifting abit. The doc did say the one watch out is for pain that keeps up and gets worse rather than subsides or comes and goes. Also, like you, I had no chemo or rad. follow-up and I got second opinions. However, that finding to now follow-up just came out in June. I asked my doc about it and he said that in light of the study he would have prescribed it but after 2 years it makes little sense. I would diffinitly have the pain looked into ASAP. Ohh, I'm now taking Vioxx for the arthritis, works OK Good luck, God bless and be well Bobmc- NSCLC- stageIIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

    Ada Waddell

So saddened by this news, Ada was such a wonderful person, she always a good word for someone in need. She will be greatly missed. Sometimes this disease just stops you in your tracks, this is one of those times. May she be at peace and with God today. God bless us all Bobmc- NSCLC- stageIIB-left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"
  13. Hello Mrs. First, just wanted to say, that your jumping the gun a bit but still I certainly understand your concern. The standard method for testing is a CT or CAT scan. This usually will determin if there's a mass ( possible tumor), however It may or may not be cancerous. If a mass is found then a biopsy usually follows to determin if it is cancer. I'm really, really simplifying this for you cause it can get complicated. I would suggest you do some research but not until your dad is diagnosed. Just dosn't make sense to put yourself through all the worries unless you absolutely must. Hope this helps God bless and I'll say a prayer for your dad! 14. Hello Cathy; And welcome so glad you found us. So very sorry to hear of your dad but as others have said he is certainly a survivor! Also, agree with Dave, second opinions can be real comforting. My doc's encouraged it. Again welcome and know you are not alone God bless Bobmc- NSCLC- stageIIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist in enjoying life today!"
  15. Hey Gina, Yep, them da-- tests just go with the disease. It gets a bit easier with time, but its always there. Ya know that thought in your head that maybe this time I won't be so lucky and then waiting. It just sucks!! Someone said it and it was also true for me that the first year was the toughest. My next set will be in Dec. at 2 &1/2 years and yes, it is easier. I've also learned like Terrie to refrig. the barium but I put it in a glass and gulp the sh__t and then holler like hell when I'm done. I also learned to schedule my tests early. I'm usually there at 7:30 AM and have it down to where I can get a head, chest and abdomen scan done, along with x-rays in about 2 hr.'s. Then run like hell for the bathrm and get rid of the barium. Ohhh what a life we lead. And then when I really get down and think about it!!! I'm very, very grateful that I can do all of the above!!! Just keep telling yourself " GOOD TO BE A SURVIVOR TODAY" Works for me. I'm be praying for god news. God bless and stay well Bobmc- NSCLC-stageIIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"
