    What to do?

Hey Debi; I had this conversation with my oncologist back in June right after the report came out. I was stage IIB and the recommendation was no follow- up chemo which was over 2 years ago. My doc said he was at the conference and said in light of the findings he would have recommended it. Knowing what I know now about lung cancer, I would have opted for it. My feeling is ya just gotta give yourself every posible chance. Still, I feel for ya, cause it's a tough decision. Hope this helps and good luck! God bless and be well Bobmc- NSCLC- stageIIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

  8. Hello Glo, My very best to you and your hubby, so sorry you have been getting the run around. On top of everything else you certainly don't need that. I'm so very glad you found us, you will find support, good information, caring people and most important of all SURVIVORS. I agree with Dave, a cancer center will get you dr.'s that know how to treat this disease. Your husbands cancer needs to be staged correctly and it should be done as quickly as possible. I think your right in calling your insurance co., I'd let them know right off the bat that your dealing with lung cancer and your not happy with the treatment / service that you have been recieving. I was also diagnosed with NSCLC- Squamous type and that type is a bit slower growing and spreads less quickly, if that's any comfort. However, it's still lung cancer. Hang in there and know you are not alone, and again glad your here! God bless, be well and you and your husband will be in my prayers. 10. Hi Dot; Good to hear from ya again I see you have quite a bit on your plate right now. 12. Hello Tami; I had my left lung removed on May 2nd, 2001. The family pic is 8 weeks after surgury in the rainforests of Costa Rica and I thought I was doing good! I can't even imagine going back to work 10 days after surgury. God bless you and the kids!! To your question; I also have the same kind of pain, usually when I'm straining and active. Like you, I was very concerned and back in May they did bone scans and found no cancer but some arthritis. I was also told that I had alot of scar tissue and things were settling. I think other organs just kind of shift a bit. Obvious, I'm no doctor. Anyway, I was taking 4 to 6 advil a day for it, not all the time but still alot. The doc. gave me a 6 month script for Vioxx, (50mg). I take one a day and they work great. There an anti-inflamatory drug so I'm told. Hope this helps and I would certainly discuss this with your doc. God bless be well and you are a trooper Bobmc- NSCLC-stage IIB left pneumonectomy 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

  19. Hey Jude; Pain free!!! thats real good ;Yep, it does sound like your a bit of a junkee though but so be it and at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm on Vioxx myself. I was also in alot of pain ( left shoulder& back), I was taking 4 to 6 advil a day for it . Strange, I didn't have it the first year after surgury but last spring it drove me nuts. I have a 6 month script for the Vioxx and they work great, think there an anti-inflamitory, one of the cox-2 inhibiters. Anyway happy for ya, now you can get back to swinging the clubs!! God bless and stay well Bobmc- NSCLC- stageIIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

  21. Hello Barbara, Welcome and my very best to you, I see were somewhat neighbors as I live in northern NJ. I had a pneumonectomy ( left lung removed ) at Morristown Memorial on 5/2/01. Your right about the upcoming tests, know matter what, they still weigh heavy on us. It does get easier with time but its still always tense. Like you, I went through the stage of anaylizing the odds, doing the what if 's in my head, shedding the tears and trying to hold it all together. I guess it just goes with the dx. of cancer. My advice is screw the odds, forget about the dying and focus on living each day as it comes. I know easier said than done. I try to do my best to find something each and every day to be grateful for. For me it helps as well as being here on the boards. I also pray much more these days. I'm also a firm believer in getting second opinions. Don't be afraid to get one, it's comforting if nothing else. Again welcome, glad your here, you will find support, good info. and most important of all SURVIVORS. God bless and be well Bobmc - NSCLC- stageIIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying lifetoday!"

  23. Hello Michele: Welcome, my very best to you and your mom. Glad you are here, Ada is right, your moms cancer needs to be staged and typed. They do the biopsy to view the cells, it could be small cell lung cancer ( SCLC ); or non- small cell lung cancer ( NSCLC), if NSCLC, it could be squamous, Adeno, or large cell ; ; I know it can be overwelming, best bet is to print out some material, so you have an understanding, when you see the doc.'s. I've also found it helpful to write out my questions before the visit. and by all means get and talk about second opinions and ask for specialists with experience. Everyone will be understanding. God bless, be well and you and your mom will be in my prayers. Bobmc- NSCLC- stage IIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"
