I thank God much more these days, and yes there has been much sadness on the site lately. Like you I have been doing alot of praying, it can get overwelming at times, but it's so nice to know we are not alone in this struggle. 3. Hey Dave; That is really COOL!! ; I' ll be most certainly rootin for the 1- lunged guy, We gotta stick together and talk about inspiration!! ; And by the way Dave, I just got back from Hilton Head Island, where I rented a bike for the week, peddled all over the place, even up and down the beach trying to keep up with the dolphins, I lost but had a blast. and to think it's been two years since they took out the lung. so, so happy for ya Dave, keep it up!!!! God bless and win!!! Bobmc- NSCLC- stage IIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

Hey Jane, Thank you so much for sharing your sisters story. Iressa's suppose to be the first of the new targeted therapy drugs and it's so nice to hear of people having positive experiences with it. I hope and pray that it continues to work for her and that new and better drugs are developed. 5. Hi Ringsgal; My very best to you and your boyfriend, so sorry he is depressed, I was quite the oposite so can't help you there, regarding the bio markers. My oncologist uses CEA ( carcinoembryonic antigen )- Wow Tuff to spell , Its checked as part of the blood tests, it's only useful in detecting recurrant disease, and is not fool proof as it can also be a sign of cirrhosis, chronic lung disease and a few other things. My doc plots it on a graph, It was high for me prior to surgery, came down to a normal non-smoker level after surgery and stayed there for about a year , then over the winter rose again, scared the dickens out of me, but was sick with bronchites most of the winter, and has now came back down. , ( when it rose it was a signal to him to have additional testing done ), bone scans, brain scans, which were all negative.Get the picture, hope this helps, I think if you do a search on biomarker thru cancer.com you might find the details, or check with John our resident expert here. good luck, God bless and hope your boyfriend is feeling better. 11. Thanks Joanie, My mom had already told me about it, she was really scared when I was dx.ed, Anyway, I watched it, alot of optimism, nothing earth shattering, and I gotta tell ya, I didn't get a warm - fuzzy feeling when they showed the 5 year survival rate for lung cancer on the bottom of the pack at 15%. And all they could say was tobacco, tobacco tobacco; I did like the fact that the State of Maryland is using tobacco monies for research, I think Kentucky is also doing a good job at that. Anyway let me know what you thought. Maybe it was just me. God bless and be well Bobmc- NSCLC- stageIIB -left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 ' absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"
  12. Hi Cathy, Add my name to the" me too on this one"; Just got a 6 month scrip from my doc. for Vioxx to help control the pain. It's actually worse this year than last year, 2 years since my pneumonectomy, Yea, I am a year older too, but still only 52, Anyway, I was taking 4 to 6 Advil a day for it and the doc gave me the Vioxx, and it works great, just take one a day, Check this out, I'm on vac., today I stained a deck for 3 hours and then went out and played 18 holes of golf, no pain!! even shot an 80 today!! real rare. ( easy course though ) Anyway good luck and let us know how you make out God bless and be well Bobmc- NSCLC stageIIB - left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

    Smoking bans

Yea, Karma, great thought, I been bringing up the point that they've been getting big bucks from the tobacco industry and very little if any goes' to research, At least you have a smoking ban in Boston, here in Jersey, were still at it,been sending the letters but the 000 cartel in Atlantic City seems to be fighting it, It will pass but will take a bit longer. Keep at it!!! God bless and be well Bobmc- NSCLC- stage IIB- left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"
