Beth, so very sorry to read your disappointing test results. never give up. Keep on hanging in there. Praying for you. pammie
  3. So sorry to hear about your dad. thankful he was able to be surrounded by loved ones. What a blessing. praying for you and your family. pammie
  4. As Beth said, it kind of depends on the communication and confidence you have in your doc in considering seeking a second opinion. Sometimes a different doc will give a different point of view or suggest some different options. we got a second opinion and felt more comfortable with having the diagnosis comfirmed. Our options are pretty limited here in Lubbock, Texas unless we want to do a lot of traveling. and there are the insurance problems. The school where my husband works got cheaper health insurance for all the employees. Hopefully you have a lot of choices where you live. Always keep yourself informed about your situation, treatment options and clinical trials. Hope things work well for you and God blesses you. pammie
  5. Having a goal for your dad is a great idea. Keep encouraging him to look forward to the time with family. Positve thoughts are helpful in dealing with stressfull situations. Hang in there. You are doing a great job. pammie

  11. Hi Nana Jane, know how you feel. i finished the chemo sessions afte six months with very little improvement but am stable. after a month of no chemo i decided the cancer was active again because of little acches and pains in the lungs and some coughing. But the PET and CAT said all was good. like the others said, take something when you have anxious spells. It doesn't have to be continually. our bodies are so complicated which makes some things hard to diagnose. Get some reassurance from the doc and count your blessings. pammie
  12. Know Lucie is enjoying the rest from being "treated". Don, always appreciate you two. you encourage the rest of us to keep on keeping on. If no one else responds you guys do. Thanks for being dependable and positive. You two are a beacon. Thank you and enjoy the break from treatment. pammie
  13. Keeping you in our prayers Rich. Hard not to be anxious about every little ache or pain (and big ones too). Keep looking at the good things in your life. My dad likes to watch funny old movies. Lots of laughing there. pammie.
  14. So thankful your mom has a sweet daughter to hunt up info for her. After the second chemo I gradually lost all of my hair. I had very thick hair about shoulder length. When I would lay down on the pillow my head would hurt in various places where the hair was coming out. The pressure of the pillow seemed to push into my head and it HURT! i wish i had short hair when that happend. Loosing my hair hurt me physically more than any other side effect. Kind of strange. If a person has thick hair or long hair I would reccomend cutting it or thinning it before it starts coming out to alleviate some of the discomfort. I purchased a couple of wigs before my hair came out so i could match the color fairly well. I love babies and will be waiting to hear from you about yours. pammie
  15. Cheryl, please don't give up. You are a human being with feelings and reactions like everyone. All of us have good times and bad. Keep fighting for the good days. Even in the dark moments there are blessings and funny things to think about. Stay in the saddle. pammie
  16. Hey Lori and mom, I am getting ready to start Iressa (if insurance approves). Did six months of chemo with very little effect. Appears your mom and my situations are similar although the doc said radiation would not benefit me since the malignancies and throughout the pleural cavity. Will be thinking about you both and praying for a wonderful response for mom. Middle aged,Female non-smokers are the group that has responsed best in the clinical trials to Iressa so keep your look out hopeful and positive. pammie

    mouth sores

Thank you for all the suggestions for helping with the mouth sores. The rinsing solutions were very helpful. I notice that each person responds to treatments in a slighty different way. We have been out of town visitng relatives for the holidays and are finally back. Am starting Iressa if the insurance company approves it. A little bit anxious since i had the anaplylatic reaction to zosyn (antibiotic) last summer. Thanks for the encouraging words and suggestions from all of you. pammie

    mouth sores

I am new to this forum. Got on the new user forum but my husband had to help me get to this. i am not a computer person. Could any of you please give me some advice about dealing with mouth sores. i have had some bad ones lately and am having a hard time getting rid of them despite using mouth rinses and the ointments for canker sores. Thanks for your help. I am still learning how to use all this but will learn it. pammie
  19. Thanks to all you precious friends for your replies and encouragment. I do feel that I can already call you friends. Di, i have heard of Idalou and been thru there many times. My daugher teaches school in Ralls. Just to let you know a little more about us. My husband is 48 and has had type I diabetes since he was 3. Despite being a brittle diabetic for 45 yrs. he is in excellent health and has a fantastic, positive, never give up attitude. He is my speciall blessing from God. i have no doubt, as several of you have mentioned, his optiimistic view of life has been a great help in his fight with disease. There are countless blessings to list every day though. I have added you guys to my blessing list. Will be keeping up with you if i can manage the computer skills. pammie
  20. This is the first time i have ever done a support group deal. Have read lots of the messages from various ones of you though. Your positive and hopeful comments and attitudes are a wonderful boost. I found out June 29 that i had cancer. the left lung had 2 liters of fluid in it from the pleural effusion. thought i had bronchitis. What a shock. Cancer. Have had ashtma as long as I can remember then in 1995 was diagnosed with MS. But inoperable cancer? i never even gave it a passing thought and here we are dealing with this. My asthma and MS were under great control for two years and I was doing water aerobics five days a week. thought things were going well. My husband of 27 yrs. has been fantastically supportive as have my four children, parents and other family members. At this point my condition is stable after 8 rounds of chemo. Will be rescanned later this month and see what the doc suggests. Due to the MS, some docs have said I may not be elgible for clinical trials in the future. I feel so blessed to have some people to exchange with. I have shed tears over your losses and bad news and rejoiced with your good reports. God bless you for being here.
