    So sorry for your loss.
  9. Melinda, Is your moms lack of eating due to the diarrhea? I mean, if she has not been hungry for awhile now you may consider getting a feeding tube so she can get her strength back. When my mom was dehydrated and not eating well they wanted to put one in, but she didn't want one. I wish we would have insisted because I think it would have helped her to get her strength back and then she would have been able to fight more. Also just curious what they have her on for the diarrhea? Because if it doesn't work and she hasn't been checked for C Diff you may want them to test for that. There are a couple of special antibiotics they use to clear that up. They are Flagyl and Vancocin.
  10. Melinda,Your mom is in my prayers. Please Please make sure your mom is drinking. Dehydrationg sneaks up so fast and things can go downhill fast. I learned this the hard way.
  11. Gail, I am so very sorry for your loss.
  12. I feel this is exactly what hospice did to my mom. Yes she was dying but I believe because they gave her so many drugs she died sooner. In the beginning they easily agreed that we would let them know when mom needed more meds for pain. Then over night they claimed she was in pain and started to give her more and more meds. Mom became like a zombie and couldn't stay awake. She couldn't stay awake long enough to eat or drink. The day before she was sitting up fine and eating and drinking, they upped the meds and it all changed. We had to fight to get them to stop giving her meds and only give them when we asked for them. I remember the day driving to hospice with tears in my eyes ready to tell them exactly what I thought and discuss with dad removing mom from hospice. When I got there my dad and sister had finally convinced them to stop the meds and only give on request. Unfortunately mom was so dehydrated by then that she never got better and died a few days later. I know every hospice is different but I will be very cautious before I use hospice again.
  13. Gail I am so sorry you are going through this, you all are in my prayers. It was very hard for my family to tell my mom hospice was being called, we like you, didn't want her to give up. She also suffered from confusion and it was hard to tell what she understood. But I guess she wasn't as confused as we thought because the day we gathered to talk to her the minute hospice was mentioned she closed her eyes and went to , or pretended to sleep. We also had hospice send someone out to explain the program and to talk to mom. Well the minute she walked in the room mom closed her eyes and pretended to sleep. I remember I told her she didn't have to go. That we could work with her to build her back up so she could fight. She told me she just didn't think she could. I like the way Carleen and Rashidcpa handled it, I wish we would have done that.
