  1. I think the tumor goes to the pathology lab and the pathologist examines measures and examines it. I think now they can examine a tumor and tell how agressive/non agressive it is and determine what more treatment a patient might need. Let me tell you this true story. When I taught 4th grade the students would have 'show and tell'. They would bring something from home to share with the class. They would stand before the class and talk about whatever they had brought. One day on my desk was a ice cream looking plastic cup and on the outside of the cup was written "Mrs. Rojas". I opened the cup and there were three little round marble things in it. I took them out and looked at them trying to figure out what they were. All of a sudden one of my students shouted out with a great deal of pride, "Those are my mother's gall stones. I brought them for show and tell". Carol
  2. Hi Barb, Sorry to hear that you have had such bad side effects from treatment. My radiation oncologist gave me a prescription for I guess what they call the 'magic mouthwash'. It made my mouth and throat feel numb. He also told me to go to the pharmacy and order Sween Cream. It is not on the shelf and you have to order it from the pharmacist, though it does not require a prescription. Two other things he told me to use as needed were 100% aloe vera gel and aquaphor. The aquaphor is like a very thick vaseline. Hope this helps. Carol

  13. I can see that you are concerned about a recurrence of the cancer. We all have this concern and some of us handle it better than others. I had stage 3A nsclc. I had 6 weeks of daily radiation and weekly chemo before surgery because I had two lymph nodes to ight up on the CT and the PET scans. During surgery my surgeon removed 20 lymph nodes and none tested to be cancerous. He even removed one rib bone to get to all that he had to get to. I had two sessions of chemo after surgery. My surgery was in July,2005. My scans have been clear since. I hope and pray to remain cancer free, and I pray for the same for you and all of us. Carol
  14. That is wonderful, wonderful news! Carol
  15. I had my surgery on July 1, 2005. I was back at work teaching high school at the end of August, 2005. I was still sore but fine. I noticed that I walked alot slower, I could not pick up heavy boxes of books and I sure did not want a pat on the back from anybody. I had 6 weeks of chemo and radiation before surgery. I had two sessions of a much stronger dose of the same chemo after surgery. My infusions were three weeks apart. I would schedule my chemo infusions on Fridays. I would take Friday off of work and have the weekend and Monday if needed. I also took Alleve pain pills before the pain from the chemo set in that really helped me and I did not have the constipation that can happen with the prescription pain medication. I continue to pray for the best for you and your wife. Carol

  18. Thank you all for replying to my post. I am so glad to know that I am normal under 'new normal' circumstances. It helps so much to express my concerns here because sometimes I feel really unsure of myself, my aches, pains and worries. It's just that sometimes if I don't know what is causing the pain my hyper vigilance takes over and scares me into thinking something is really very wrong. I certainly hope that I said that in an understandable manner. I am just so grateful for all of you. Thank you! Thank you! Carol
  19. I had my upper right lobectomy in July of 2005. I thought by now I would only have a scar to remind me of the surgery-WRONG! Aside from the mental/emotional concerns I have this feeling of tightness around my chest. It feels like I need to unhook a too tight bra(ok guys, stay with me here)only I am not wearing a bra. Anyone else have this problem? Carol
  20. I am so sorry that you did not get better results from treatment. My prayers for the both of you for comfort and strength. Carol
