  3. Hello Karen, I had an upper right lobectomy in July of 2005. I also was very scared, no more like terrified. I know that I was given an epidural, I guess that helped with pain. I had this little pain machine on my bed rail and I could push the button to get some pain medication if the pain got too bad. I was up walking the hospital corridor the very next morning. I did not have much of an appetite and then I started to eat because I think my doctor thought something was wrong with me because I was not eating. I was in the hospital for 9 days. I do not know why I was there so long. My doctor I think is just one of those conservatively cautios surgeons. My pain came from the sugical incision healing. I took pain medication for that and it did help alot. I started to take Aleve after a while because the pain medication did constipate me. I did have trouble reaching for things and I found that I walked very slowly. I went back to work at the end of August teaching high school. This surgery is doable. Hey ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I hope and pray that all goes well with your mother. Carol

It has been a year and a half for me but I still on occasion take anti-anxiety medication. For you, it is your mother and I know that is very difficult for you. Please do continue to come here for support. We do understand. Carol

  20. I had weekly chemo and daily radiation on my upper right lung and lymph nodes. The tumor all but disappeared and the nodes were free of cancer when I had my surgery.
  21. Hi Mitchell and Welcome, Mitchell the fact that your mother was able to have surgery is a very good thing. The fact that she was staged II is also very good because that means that the cancer was found in the early stage. It takes a while to heal from the surgery. Please have your mom ask the oncologist about adjuvant chemo. Adjuvant chemo is to have chemo infusions after surgery to hopefully kill any microscopic cancer cells that may not show up on the scans. I had stage 3A lung cancer. I had chemo/radiation, sugery and more chemo. I just told you that so that you can let your mom know that chemo is doable and it is temporary and the results are certainly worth it. Carol
  22. That is wonderful news! Congratulations! Carol
  23. FANTASTIC!!! WONDERFUL!!! THANK YOU!!! AND KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!! Carol
