  1. Fay I remember seeing a trial for a vaccine specifically for patients with BAC features. It might have been at the University of Iowa in Ames. Can't remember now. Have you seen that? Or is it an old trial? Elaine
  2. I too am having trouble finding something that works. I have painful neuropathy--burning pain with numbness--over most of my body. I am wondering if I should ask for this medication--though I looked it up and it is used for Multiple Sceloris numbness--. What kind of pain are you experiencing? I sure would like to know from others who might have painful parethesia what works, because I am miserable most days, now. Elaine
  3. Dean and all; Got you all beat--84% Dixie--grew up in midwest and lived ALL of my adult like in the North/NorthMidwest. Hmmmm lol Elaine
  4. Thanks I bet I am going to need this based on my HMO. Have others had problems with HMOs not paying for things AFTER the fact and not granting "permission" for treatments that Drs in their own network suggest???? ANd not paying the amount the DR in their own network charged???? This is unreal to me. Elaine
  5. Great job! Once you get the Ok from all the people whose pictures are on it, there has to be some way to get this out to the public via at least the internet--there is some way to get a web site to show up as a "sponsored link" on google.com--they show up on the right side of the page whenever key words are typed into the search bar. Elaine
  6. This may have been posted before, but if so, if bears repeating and should have made front page news all accross the country. As a young woman, (I think I am young lol) who has stage IV lc, the message needs to get out to other young women so that they never ever wind up in my shoes. Other reports I read this morning on this say that an epidemic is about to begin with many many more women somkers facing Lung cancer. What can we as a group do???? Women smokers run twice lung cancer risk than men 10 Feb 2004 If you take a woman who smokes 20-a-day, and a man who smokes 20-a-day, the woman will run a much greater risk of developing lung cancer. According to research carried out on 2,500 people (men and women) over 40, women ran double the risk of getting lung cancer than men (if you compare a man and a woman who smoke the same amount each day). In the study, 1202 women and 1288 men underwent computed tomography scans (CT scans). They were being screened for lung cancer. All the men and women had smoked a packet a day for ten years or five packets a day for five years. The Scans (plus follow up) revealed that 45 of the women and 20 of the men had lung cancer. Women were more than twice as likely to develop lung cancer than men. This was after factoring in such things as age and smoking history. v If more research confirms there findings, maybe anti-smoking efforts should be concentrated more on teenage girls. More and more teenage girls are starting to smoke in the western world (many say that they do it in order not to get fat). The researchers said that they could not be sure why it is that women run a higher risk of getting lung cancer than men. Some say it could be a matter of how well men and women metabolise (clear out) the toxins from tobacco smoke. They said that they needed to carry out more research.
  7. I wish I could help you with your question about the trachea. What are his symptoms? Does he have a bad cough? I know the Drs. don't seem to say much about what is causing what. I often wonder why that is. But I am one to want to know and maybe they truly don't know, but I wonder. I am so sorry you have to be here but am glad you have found benefit in it over the last year. Your family sounds wonderful and I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Elaine
  8. I wish I knew the answer so you wouldn't have to wait. It is so hard waiting, I jsut found out when I was Dxed. It was so hard to get the strength to even get to the Dr. appointments from all the anxiety. My prayers are with both you and your husband and your entire family. I worry about my husband--he has a bad cold and I immediately worried that he, too, was very ill. I want everyone to be well--that I guess is for another life. I think the pain of others hurts more than our own. Elaine
  9. Do bone mets hurt only when you press on the area at first? Or do they begin as being more of a constant pain? IThanks.
  10. Angie: I was happy to hear from you as I had been thinking of you and your dad. I am keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers--and now Caitin too. I wish I knew info about the swelling, but I don't. I just want to let you know that you are all in my thoughts. I don't post to every message like I should--so anyone reading this--please know I care about you all deeply. Elaine

    update on dad

I am very saddened to hear about your father's latest news. It is clear that he is a wonderful man, as he has a wonderful daughter-you! Your caring for your father is testament to that. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

    Scared here

We are the same age, at least in years. I am new at this LC stuff and I wish neither of us were here in this forum. Wish rather we had met on a plane or were next door neighbors or co-workers. But that is not what happened. I will keep you in my thoughts tomorrow and all days ahead. If you need someone to talk to, PM me or send me your phone number. Do what you need to do for you. In my thoughts, Elaine
  14. It has taken me several days to reply. When I first came to this board several weeks ago, yours and Buddy's story was one of the first I read. It broke my heart to find that you had lost your Buddy and love. I know there are no words to comfort you, but maybe it can help you to know how much of an inspiration you and Buddy have been to so many of us. God has given you a great and lasting strength, and may you find peace and pleasure in the days to come. Memories seem insufficient in our grief, but they can also be such comfort. Elaine
  15. The story of your weekend and the new picture of you and Lucy made my day. When I think of love, I think of the two of you --how the strength of your togetherness has inspired so many of us here! Give Lucy a hug for me. I am so glad you two had the gift of this weekend and I am sure it was a gift for your children too. Thanks for sharing it with us! Elaine

    Suggestions?

Tbone: Glad to hear you are going to get treatements started right away. My appetite is still pretty good, and I have not lost weight--which any other time in my life would be a sad thing--but now I am so happy about that! I do however have a problem with my taste--anything with salt tastes like I am standing at a salt lick--yech. Dr said that is from the cancer--cancer effects so many things and it is hard to know or understand them all, I guess. So it is hard to say about your symptoms. You and yours are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Elaine
  17. Lilly, I am so glad that you are feeling better and spent some time with friends this past weekend. You are such a valuable person on this list and I look forward to reading your posts every day. You do need to do whatever it takes for yourself and for your healing. But pls know that you are important to many of us. I lost my mom when I was nine and even now, especially now, I wish I had my mom to help me through this. My mom was also a writer and when I think of you I think that you are very much like my mother. Elaine
  18. Well, I really feel bad because before I even knew Dave or he me, I teased him about his dogs on chat last week. I apogize because I really don't know a hill of beans about dogs. I have cats, also way under 20 lbs which might quailify me for the small dog club--lol. I think what matters most is not the size but the love between animal and owners and that can't be weighed by any known scale. Elaine
  19. I am a former teacher and I know what a loss it must be to you to have to give it up right now. Please know that you mean so much to so many of us. Elaine

    PET results

You are truly an inspiration to me and many others. I think of you each day and have kept your husband and child in my prayers as well.
  21. There has not been one day since I came to this board, that I have not thought about and prayed for both Buddy and you. You continue in my prayers. I know there are no words to take away your pain. Pls know you and Buddy have helped so many. Thank-you Elaine
  22. Right now I don't qualify for any public assistance because I am still officially married, so I have to pay for my meds. Perhaps in the future I may qualify for assistance, but not now. I am just wondering how much meds are going to cost and the best place and way to buy them.
  23. I don't have prescription insurance, and I was wondering if someone could point me to a place that carries most meds (gneric) and is low cost. So far I have paid several hunderd dollars. What is the average cost of meds for this disease?

    No PCI

According to what Berrissa says and what the Rad onc said, it is probably wise to wait for the PCI. The problem here, however, is the other Doctor. maybe someone should "forget" to pay him or her since he or she just wasted your time and your thoughts and decision making energy. I hope you let him know what you think about what happened and how much it may have cost you.
  25. Has anyone had esophagus invlobement with his or her lung cancer? If so, would you PM me so I am ask a question about it? Thanks Elaine
