  3. Welcome Lisa. I am an RN also. Never specialized in onocology but- When I went to the doctor for shoulder pain nearly 9 years ago and was told instead of the ortho referal I was expecting that I had lung cancer - I knew pain was not an early symtom of lung cancr so I just knew I was a gonner. Boy did the tears flow! Well hear it is 2006 and I am going to work 3-11:30 this pm. I am alive , well and healthy. I went to curves and exercised this morning then took the dogs to exercise at the dog park. I pray that your Dad responds well to treatment. Keep us posted. Donna G
  4. Welcome Donna. I hope and pray your Dad responds to the chemo with great results. I had chemo and radiation before I was able to have surgery. They knew from the biopsy that it was non small cell but couldn't decide if it was Adenocarcinoma or Squamous. After I had the surgery I asked well what did the pathology say, which one? My answer was we still don't know because it was all dead, all scar tissue now. Hope your Dad's just turns to scar tissue, all dead. Donna G
  5. Please except my prayers for your peace during this time of grieving your loss. I am sure he is happy. Donna G
  6. Agnes wow, great writing and a great story. Are you going back to school for writing? You have a talent , that's for sure! This should be under "My Story" also. So glad you found us and shared. Donna G
  7. Cancer spreads in the lymph system or blood system. Most common organs for it to set up housekeeping are the liver, lungs, brain, and bones but I imagine if it had a mind too it could stop anywhere and start to grow. We all have heard it in the Adrenals, thyroid. I imagine it is rare for lung cancer to spread to the ovaries but blood goes there too. Donna G

  9. Hello and welcome. Glad you found us. Do you know that people who have lung cancer are more prone to blood clots. The cancer upsets part of the clotting mechanism. The drug of choice for those with lung cancer and clots is Levenox ( low molecular weight heparin ) usually 1 or 2 times daily by injection into the abdomen. Warfarin ( or Coumadin) does not treat these people adequately. I know this is a difficult time for you- all the tests and doctor visits and setting up plans for treatment. Please keep us posted. Donna G
  10. Hi Jan. Welcome. Glad you came out and introduced yourself. Now keep us posted on how your Mom is doing. Donna G
  11. Hi Agnes. Welcome . I was just 50 when I was diagnosed also. Keep us posted. Donna G
  12. Hi Dani. YOU say you are just 3 weeks post thorocotomy? Did you have an open thorocotomy with a long scar or did you have VAT or video assisted which has small cuts ? Boy if you have had an open thorocotomy you are unbelievable. I really don't remember wanting to do housework at 3 weeks but of course about that time I was heading back to chemo sessions which may have made a difference. It just really sounds like you are way ahead of most of us! Don't overdue. Keep us posted. Donna G
  13. Hello. Yes as Connie said I got neuropathy from Cisplatin that I took. My first symtom I noticed was falling down. It got my attention! I would be out walking the dog and step from the paved path onto grass and fall on my As----. The doctor said right off it was neuropathy. Sent me to a neurologist . It affected my hands some but mostly my lower legs and feet. Good news is it got better. I don't fall down anymore. My feet have still got problems getting correct and "normal" messages via the nerves but I guess I have learned to compensate. Weird things like if I have a tiny piece of sand or gravel in my shoe it feels like a piece of glass. My feet wiggle a lot , the dr. said they are searching for information. I am glad I took the Cisplatin ( and VP 16) for here it is 8 and 1/2 years later and I am alive to tell you about it and keeping NED as a close friend. If you have any more questions, just email or send a personal message. Donna G
  14. We just have to make a machine as smart and loving as a dog! They can already be trained to detect lung cancer and in some places have been doing it. Donna G
  15. Wow. They did a great job. Of course they had a great gal to write about who is a real champ. Donna G

Stable , great news. Donna G
  20. Welcome Donna! Those are 2 good chemo drugs. You say Stage 4 which means usually that it is somewhere else than the lungs. Is that the case with you? Were you having any problems when they discovered it? Are you feeling better? Pray you get a great response, a great pet scan. Keep us posted Donna G
  21. Is Castle Island in South Boston? Donna G
  22. If you have lung cancer you are at increased risk of forming and throwing blood clots. Levenox ( low molecular weight heparin) is the drug of choice for people with lung cancer who throw clots. For some reason coumadin does not work to prevent these clots. Beanie or Brenda ( her Dad), Eppie,( her dad), Andrea, (her Mom) mamarama (her sister), shirleyb ( her husband), gerbilrunner (or Jen) and also TAnn (who we recently lost) all posted about blood clots complicating the diagnosis. I am glad your Dad was put on Levenox. Keep us posted Donna G

  24. Welcome. You have found out that pain can be a friend! I was to the doctor for pain which I thought was from lifting boxes ( was moving again). It turned out it was a tumor pressing on a nerve. I am a 8+ year survivor because of that doctors visit! Wishing you well. Keep us posted especially about the kidney. Donna G
