Silvia, my friend's dear mother, was diagnosed with NSCLC with mets to the brain about a month ago. She underwent the gamma knife procedure, had a mediastenoscopy which showed no lymph node involvement. She was scheduled for radiation/chemo, and surgery for early Sept. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Silvia passed away at home on Aug. 15, 2004. I introduced Silvia to this community, and she read, but never had a chance to post. She was inspired by the stories here, and the books I had passed along to her. She had fighting spirit. Please pray for peace and comfort for her daughter Tracy, son Jamie, grandson Michael, and other family members. Another courageous cancer warrior is in peace. (Perhaps having coffee with my Mom!!) Don, Read and re-read Pamela's post. She has stated it great! I too often thought about the what-ifs. Being in the medical field, I was looked to for all decisions. I tried my best to pick what was right, but often second guessed my decisions. All I know is I did the best I could, through love for my Mom. Remember hind sight is always 20/20 and what works for one may not work for another individual. I wish you all the best. Faylene

Kim, Near the end of the radiation treatments my Mom had problems as well. The Onc. gave her the magic mouth wash to use, be she also drank aloe vera juice which seemed to help with the healing. You can find it at some pharmacies or at a health food store. Also an ulcer medicine called carafate (sp?) seemed to help. I think Ginny's Earl used this as well. As for foods, my mom ate a lot of pudding and lukewarm soup when her throat bothered her. Only a little bit at a time mind you. Hope you can find something that helps. Faylene

Hi Dean, In the operating room we give a drug called ephedrine for low blood pressure. I'm not sure though if it comes in pill form and can be used at home. Unfortunately, I'm on holidays and won't be able to ask, but perhaps hospice will have some answers for you. If you feel dizzy, make sure to lie down with your feet elevated that should help.
