Heather, I had the same chemo (Carbo/Taxol)and it did hurt. What helped was a heating pad over the area a(vein) where I was getting the infusion. It expanded the vein so I could get chemo (Slow infusion).I was surprised, but it truly worked, chemo nurse knew solution. Hope this helps you. I did not have a port either. He knows what he is talking about...I too have had brain mets three times, two surgeries (no pain) Stereotactic for residuals cells and Cyberknife, almost the same as Gammaknife. Hi Gina, Good to hear from you. Happy to hear you are doing well, what a survivor...Sorry you have to leave Dr. J and CCC. Must be good doctor's heh, we're still here. As far as Kaiser treating CA, I don't know. My BIL and SIL have it and love their doctors, but then again it's not CA. Only thing they complain about is length of time to get an appt.. Their follow up is good. He has Diabetes and she had Hypertension, both treated by GP, no specialists involved.They go to Riverside...Did you talk to or ask Dr. J. if he could recommend or refer you or maybe Dr. Yang. It is so hard to change from doctors' that have taken good care of you and saved your life.. Wish I could help morewhen it comes to Kaiser, I'm green. Check in more often Hugs, Karen

Bobby, I was a 37 yr smokerand would panic if I was down to 1/2 a pack. Had never ever quit. On January 10, 2003 when the doc asked me if LC ran in my family, it scared the ***t out of me and I quit cold turkey. I wanted to live and had never even thought of LC. I even went to the casino that night. I have not smoked or had a desire to smoke ever again. I was blessed and didn't realize it then. I had a great helper. Nick, Very well done...I try to be as gentle as possible with people I see or know smoke. The gal where I get my scans done smokes or used too. She is a single mom and my comment to her was, if you are going to smoke. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get a CT scan every year, just to be safe. I wish I would have had someone say, please quit and understood the reprocusssions. Now when I see her she comes up and gives me a hug and says thank you thank you, I quit and shows me the patch on her arm.

1.Since I am in remission/NED/NERD what is the protocal for follow up appointments. How often should I have scans (CT,PET,MRI etc.)...Who requests these scans/tests? 2.I need support/have questions, who do I go to: GP,Onc,or ??? As I think of more, I will post. Good subject Ernie, Thank You

Not Social Security Insurance, it is Social Security Disability. SSD is related to his illness. I have assets too. House (3), two vwhicles, little cash an I am on SSDisability and also I get Medicare Insurance. It's ok to send me a PM if you have questions... Hugs, Karen

Moon, You need to apply for his Social Security Disability. Being stage IV he automatically qualifies. He will not be turned down. Call the Social Security office and they will help you get the ball rolling. He will also get Medicare coverage... I am sorry he is so sick. I have had two brain surgeries from a met. Moon, Wish you were closer...Don't let the insurance lapse. They will cancel you. Especially with John sick. What is John's stage? If it is a IV, he is eligable for Medicare and SSI.
