  1. Glad to have you back Jamie. With all the support work for LC that you do I think you should be excused from detention!
  2. Hi Katy and a warm welcome to this group. I am so sorry to hear about your husband. And having young children makes this even more challenging. A prayer that the radiation to the brain does the trick and that your husband can get back to the other treatment. Please keep us posted on how you and your husband are doing. Sandra
  3. Hi Paulette and a warm welcome to the group. Yes, you are one of the lucky ones with early detection. Regardless, this thing is very scary for anyone at any stage. Take good care of yourself while you are healing. And keep us posted on how you are doing. Sandra
  4. Hi everyone. After a sunny mother's day yesterday we had a bit of rain overnight. It is supposed to be rainy today but the sun is winning for now. All this rain and then sun sure makes for lawns that need to be mowed often. They are greener than green. I am going for my first navalbine chemo today. I am trying to drink lots before I go to help with my veins. I am a bit nervous about this chemo, much more so than the previous ones. I am not as healthy as I used to be and I am just anxious. I did not have a good night sleep last night so hopefully that will cause me to be relaxed when getting treatment and that will help. I hope your treatment goes well Judy. Take care all and happy Monday. Sandra
  5. Hi Beth. I am sending you some hugs and hope your day got better. Take care Sandra
  6. Geesh Caren. How very frustrating for you. I don't drink as much as I should either and right before I went into the hospital in Jan I was drinking next to nothing despite my mom's best and constant efforts. I suggest just keeping a drink in front of him at all times and maybe put a straw in it so it is easier to drink. That's about all you can do so don't beat yourself up over it....the rest is up to the patient. Sandra
  7. Good evening everyone. I had a laid back Mother's Day and enjoyed watching my son play ball. Judy, you will do just fine with Alitma. Drink plenty of fluids tomorrow. Janet, am glad you are doing better with the crap on your scalp. Hi Mike, Denise and brokenarrow. Thanks for dropping in. Have a nice evening all. Sandra
  8. Hi Sue and a warm welcome to this group. You seem to be doing very well given the hand you have been dealt. So good to hear that you are responding to treatment, still working and feeling pretty good. We all have our up and down day, we're allowed. But for the most part you will find lots of hope and positive attitudes here. Good luck with the rest of your treatment and keep us posted on how you are doing. Sandra
  9. Perfect timing as I see Bruce is on vacation and I am not working! Bruce, can you swing down and meet me at the Peace Arch border crossing? It is just outside of White Rock. We will get ourselves across the border Becky and meet you there. That will save you guys having to deal with our border patrol. You can pick up ts in Seattle before or after you get us. I am off to get packed! Can't wait!
  10. Nobody deserves lung cancer, any other kind of cancer or any kind of life threatening illness. We all deserve empathy and support.

    Scared

Hi Carol. I agree with the others...that it doesn't seem like you need to worry about the C word. However, a scare none the less that is hard on the best of us. So my thoughts are with you. I hope you enjoy your Mother's Day. Sandra
  12. That's great news Caren. Hopefully he is feeling a lot better. I am sure he will be glad to get home and have some of your cooking instead of that hospital food! Take care Sandra

    Friday's Air

Good for you Stephanie. I survived the 30 radiation treatments as well so I know how arduous it can be. As well as caregivers, I also found the radiation techs to be awesome (as you must have as well hence the oatmeal cookies!). Despite their rather monotonous job they treat every patient at every visit with awesome care. Now let's hope and pray that your radiation treatments did the trick! Enjoy your evening out. Sandra
  14. Hi Kristi. Yes, I would also assume his sore throat is from the radiation as the effects from radiation can go on for at least a month. So, yes it will heal in time but I am not sure that any OTC remedies for a sore throat will help with this. Maybe others will pipe in with remedies. I would say however that he should eat whatever feels better going down. Like meal replacement drinks, ice cream, milkshakes, etc. Has his passing out been reported to his med onc? If not I would do so right away. That sounds much more serious than his sore throat. He sure does sound like a trooper. I will send prayers for successful treatment and in getting through these nasty side effects. Sandra
  15. I agree with Patti. Very touching and a reminder to all of us about the gifts we do have in our lives.
  16. Hi Caren. I am sorry to hear about the latest turn for your dad. But I am with Randy. The hospital is obviously the best place for him right now. And hopefully they will get your dad feeling better and back home. Hey, I was in the hospital in life threatening condition in January and they managed to turn me around and get me back home. It is possible that the infection I developed was caused by Tarceva. Very rare side effect of course but possible, so something to keep in mind. This is so hard on you as well so please make sure you are looking after yourself. Please take good care and keep us posted on how you and your dad are doing. Sandra
  17. Right Judy.....the nasty steroids. I think I was prescribed decadron when on alimta but "neglected" to take the amount prescribed. I think I just took one the day of and then maybe one after. I didn't like what they did to me on first line treatment so I altered my prescription. My med onc has pointed out to me more than once that I do not have MD at the end of my name! But hey, even if you do take them and they increase your appetite...what's a few pounds here or there in the grand scheme of things. I know we don't like them but you might as well not fret over it and just enjoy what you eat!

    Gezmar

Wishing Thom well with this round of chemo. I hope it does what it is supposed to do. Best wishes Sandra
  19. Good afternoon all. Judy, a pedicure sure does sound nice. Glad you went out for a little retail therapy as well. I too find that a new outfit does wonders to raise the spirits. I didn't gain any weight while on Alimta so you are probably worrying for not. Ann, we have had a bit of rain lately so I will wish it your way. It is supposed to clear to sun today and for the rest of the week. I hope so as my son has a ball game tonight and I don't feel like getting cold and wet like I did on Tuesday. Hope everyone is having a great day! Sandra

    Gezmar

Hi Jean. I received a few Gemzar infusions. It was pretty rough on me but I think it is fairly tolerable for most. It knocked me out pretty good, nausea, etc. and I did experience hair loss. Hope that helps Sandra
  21. Hi Barb. I am so sorry to hear about your husband. This disease just isn't fair. My condolences to you and your family. Sandra
  22. Hi Amy and a warm welcome to the board. I have found it a tremendous support in my journey and I hope you will too. I am sending you and your baby prayers for successful treatments and a healthy baby. Look around the board and you will find many survivor stories that will inspire you and give you HOPE. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Sandra
  23. That's just great Jim! Continued best wishes! Sandra
  24. Well it is not yet 4 pm here Judy. But I will still join you in a deep breath and have a glass of wine! Your spirit is remarkable! Cheers! Sandra
  25. I am so sorry to hear of your wife's passing Gary. My condolences to you and your family. I wish you strength during the difficult times. God bless Sandra
