  1. This country is becoming way to politically correct . over 92% of Americans believe in God. You keep praying, because personally I don't care what atheists think of me expressing my faith. I am much more interested in what GOD thinks of me. I will continue to talk to Him and praise His holy name, regardless of what a small fraction of the population is trying to accomplish. I am sorry but I am tired of the attacks on God and God fearing Americans because of the less than 8% that "feel offended" by believers expressing their beliefs. When will this madness end? This country was founded on the Freedom of religious expression and on Christian principles. A couple of scriptural refernces to strengthen your resolve.... Matthew 10:32-33 "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." Luke 9:26 "For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels." I don't know about the rest of you , but I want the presence of God in my life....and I will pray anywhere and anytime I want.

    Down today

(((Joanie))) I once had a wise friend tell me "isn't that true of all of us-- any minute could be the last for each of us" -- This statement as a result of my confiding in her my fears after being diognosed. It's true -- we are all just penciled in here and at any minute we could be taken up....It's just that we are so much more keenly aware of that fact. I have gotten to the point thru my faith in Christ, that I no longer believe in death. I believe in life. Life here now, and then finally in heaven. So the question is "how am I living"? Would He be pleased with my effort everyday? I fall short time and time again...but the good Lord does know that I do try. It is by faith alone that we are saved (according to His Word). This fact is very powerful peace providing knowledge. Tomorrow will be better....miracles DO happen...Keep hope alive.
  3. Great News Don & Lucie !! ...Joe
  4. Carleen.... I don't know what to say other than I Praise God that Keith knew the Lord and that you will one day be re-united. He is in Heaven and is experiencing joy that is unimaginable to us.... I do pray for you, your family & friends and for your faith. May God Bless you and hold you dear... "A day with the Lord is as to a thousand years". It will only be a quick instance for Keith before he sees you again. I know that the Lord has a purpose for you that one day will become evident. God Bless you...we are here for you. Joe

    I Believe

Lyrics from Brooks & Dunn "I believe" Old man Wrigley lived in that white house Down the street where i grew up Momma used to send me over with things We struck a friendship up I spent a few long summers out on his old porch swing Says he was in the war when in the navy Lost his wife, lost his baby Broke down and asked him one time How ya keep from going crazy? He said "Oh, I'll see my wife and son in just a little while" I asked him what he meant He looked at me and smiled, said (Chorus) I raise my hands, bow my head I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see Oh i believe Few years later i was off at college Talkin' to mom on the phone one night Getting all caught up on the gossip The ins and outs of the small town life She said oh by the way son, old man Wrigley's died. Later on that night, i laid there thinkin' back Thought 'bout a couple long-lost summers I didn't know whether to cry or laugh If there was ever anybody desevred a ticket to the other side It'd be that sweet old man who looked me in the eye, said (Chorus) I raise my hands, bow my head I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see I can't quote the book The chapter or the verse You can't tell me it all ends In a slow ride in a hearse You know I'm more and more convinced The longer that i live Yeah, this can't be No, this can't be No, this can't be all there is (Chorus) When I raise my hands, bow my head I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see I believe Oh, I I believe I believe I believe I believe I believe

  10. Lucanix Phase II Clinical Data Demonstrates Significantly Increased Survival in Lung Cancer Patients ATLANTA, ASCO, June 5 -- NovaRx Corporation announced at the American Society of Clinical Oncology ("ASCO") meeting in Atlanta, GA, that data from the Company's Phase II clinical trial treating individuals with advanced stages of non-small cell lung cancer ("NSCLC") demonstrated two year-survival more than four times that of individuals treated with the current standard of care. The Phase II study of 75 patients was designed to determine the safety and efficacy of Lucanix™, a novel therapeutic treatment under development by NovaRx. In contrast to conventional cancer therapies, where systemic chemotherapeutic drugs nonspecifically kill the normal cells as well as tumor cells, the therapeutic vaccine developed by NovaRx specifically induces the patient's immune system to fight the cancer. In clinical studies to date, the side effects of this treatment have been shown to be minimal compared to those associated with traditional therapies. "These data are extremely encouraging," said John Nemunaitis, M.D., Executive Director at the Mary Crowley Medical Research Center in Dallas, TX, a clinical investigator and presenter of the Lucanix study results. "In addition to significantly increased survival rates, which is the gold standard for oncology clinical trials, we saw virtually no side effects with Lucanix. The unique mechanism of action and resulting efficacy and side effect profile could lead to a significant advancement in patient care. We look forward to initiating Phase III trials." "The compelling data presented by Dr. Nemunaitis demonstrate that further testing of Lucanix may lead to a commercially viable, effective treatment for this deadly disease," said Dr. Habib Fakhrai, Ph.D., President and CEO of NovaRx and the inventor of the Company's technology. "We are in the final stages of preparing to initiate a pivotal, Phase III trial to test Lucanix in a two-arm, controlled study in approximately 400 individuals with advanced stages of NSCLC." The therapeutic vaccine being developed by NovaRx consists of four non-small cell lung cancer cell lines that were originally derived from lung cancer patients. These cell lines were engineered to block a molecule called transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-Beta), which is a potent agent commonly produced by cancer cells that paralyzes the patients' immune system. Lucanix has been previously shown to induce immune-mediated antitumor responses in cancer patients, thus "jumpstarting" their immune response. The Phase II data demonstrate that the vaccine significantly improved survival in lung cancer patients by destroying, halting, or delaying disease progression. There are 170,000 new cases of lung cancer and 160,000 deaths caused by this disease in the United States annually. Non-small cell lung cancer is responsible for approximately 130,000 of lung cancer deaths in the U.S. each year and is the number one cause of cancer death throughout the world. NovaRx Corporation is a privately held biopharmaceutical company based in San Diego, California. The company is developing new therapeutic approaches for treating cancer with its lead indication focused on non-small cell lung cancer. NovaRx Corporation holds the exclusive worldwide license for this patented technology for the treatment and prevention of all cancers and plans to develop therapies for lung, brain, breast, colon, prostate and melanoma cancers. Patents have been issued in the U.S., Europe and Japan that protect the Company's intellectual property. Additionally, the Company is planning to initiate a multi-center pivotal Phase II/III clinical trial treating individuals with glioblastoma multiforme or gliosarcoma (brain cancers) in 2007. The Company is the recipient of two National Institutes of Health grants. Proceeds from these grants will partially offset the cost of the Phase II lung cancer trial and the planned pivotal Phase II/III brain cancer trial. Lucanix™ is a trademark of NovaRx Corporation. For more information on the company, please contact Kathy Witz Sweeney with Mentus at 858-455-5500, kwitz@mentus.com, or visit the NovaRx website at www.novarx.com.

  12. Hi Krissie... This is amazing... I live in Fenton , MI -- about 10 miles west from you. I am a 45 year old never smoker who has always been a fitness nut....I was diagnosed with BAC in 2003 and had surgery to remove a 2.7 CM tumor (RML lobectomy) radiation and chemo (stage 3a due to a positive lymph node in the middle of chest). I currently am doing well altough I have many (13) small nodules throughout both lungs (range from 2 mm to 6mm). I am only taking celebrex at this time but am considering Tarceva. The good news is that there is much in the way of new breakthoughs particularily with BAC never smokers. And some amazing successes. I have 3 daughetrs (a little older than your crew (18, 16,14). And I too want too live a long, long time. I have been to Dr Toni Wozniak (female) at Karmonos in Detroit and Dr Kalmekarian at Univ. of Mich in Ann Arbor for 2nd opinions. Both are great doctors and both feel for me it is growing very very slowly and to either watch & wait or start Tarceva are both perfectly acceptable courses. I have also been to MD Andersen in Houston right after the surgery and b4 chemo and radiation for an opnion. send me a private e-mail and we can chat some more and strategize together. I am willing to share with you what I know...also my wife Gina has become very knowledgable in this area. Joe B

Gina and I finished the race together...she let me win (by 3 seconds) . She was 33rd out of 63 in her class (Females 30-34). We really regret starting at such a relaxed pace....but we learn each time we run these events (our second race together). I also had family running the full marathon (26 miles): My Brother in law Dennis Keppers (age 37 -3hrs 35 min), Nephew Adam Bono (age 18 -- 3hr 49 min), Brother Charlie Bono (age 46 -- 3hr 52 mins, and Sister Cathy Keppers (age 36 -- 3 hrs 57 mins) My Uncle Norm Pfaff (age 61), Cousin Charlie Pfaff (32), and his wife Anita Pfaff (age 28?) did the 10k with us. My Cousin Michelle's Husband Scott Howard (they live in Traverse City-- he is an attorney up there) did the 1/2 marathon and finished 7th out of 45 in his class ! at a 7 minute per mile pace ! (overall 42nd out of 720 runners in the 1/2 marathon race). Scott's Dad is a Doctor up in Traverse City and lives right on Lake Michigan... we all got together at his place for a great BBQ/ celebration after run . His house is right on the course route (it follows the lake) at miles 1 and 25. So we had a lot of family and friends cheering us all on along the way.

Not Too bad for an old guy missing 1/2 a lung. I finished 31st out of 39 in my class (males 45-49) and 561st out of 819 overall. Gina and I ran at a leisure pace for the first 3 miles and then averaged sub 9 minute miles the last 3.2. We finished at a 9:52/ per mile pace. Decent. It Really felt awesome and we did RUN the entire time.... Next up a 10 mile run at the CRIM in Flint MI in August. Race Results are at http://www.bayshoremarathon.org and listed below for my class. 15. I received Cisplatin & Etoposide via long IV sessions every 21 days (actually the etoposide was 3 straight days every 21 days, the Cisplatin once ever 21 days). I found that I was just a little tired the first day (antinasea meds really did the trick...no feeling sick at all). Days 2-5 I felt like I had the flu and pretty much just took it easy (reading, sleeping, watching TV). After about day 7 I started feeling alot better. I was VERY hungry and was craving foods I don't normally eat; Slim Jims from Big Boy's, Broasted Chicken Breasts (ate a ton of that)...and frosty's from Wendy's.) One thing I didnt expected and no one explained to me was the effect of the steriods...when coming off of those I became very moody (just ask Gina ) I do remember putting on weight. Starting losing my hair after about 2 weeks... The Taxtotere experience later on was much different (alot more tired, water retention and aches in the ankle and knees and very low blood counts)... However, I think Cisplatin and Carboplatin are very similiar to each other. One more thing...getting the large doses every 21 days is different than getting smaller doses weekly(more side effects ...but also more chemo umphhh) Hope this helps.... Joe
  16. The Race is this Saturday morning. Gina & I ran 4 miles last night... I need one more long run (Wednesday 5 miles) to feel better about running 6.2 miles on Saturday. I won't set any records but will feel good if I can finish respectfully. Also, I had my 4 month CT on Saturday (5/20). We are watching several small nodules, and are praying for reduction or stable presentation of those. I will post after the run. I meet with my Oncologist on Tuesday 5/30...prayers are appreciated.
  17. wow. Well Rich ..you & I are living proof of the fact that male never smokers get lung cancer also...its amazing how the media grabs hold of something and it then becomesthe prevalent perception. Joe
  18. Personally, If he is the believing type.....I would talk to him about God . I would talk to him about the mercy of God, the bibles promise of life after death for thos that believe (John 3:16)....of the possibility of seeing each other again one day and how wonderful that will be. Most people are looking for hope of that type -- the bible does have wonderful passages that can ease fears and strengthen bonds (Psalm 23)..... my 2 cents
  19. praying for a great outcome.
  20. I do not have any suggestions. I visted MD anderson when I was first diagnosed and I was impressed with their organization. You are welcome here and I will certainly add your father to my prayer list. Joe
