  2. Today I had an appointment for an eye check up. I had put it off for over 3 years (who worries about their eyes with cancer? right?). Anyway, they gave me a form to fill out for medical history. The question at the bottom of the page was do you have any major medical problems that we need to know about? You know...I thought about it...put down copd and problems with A-fib but did not list lung cancer. After all, I am a survivor right? After I got back in the patient room and the doctor came in he was looking at my "history". He said, you did not mention your cancer...what's the deal. I again thought about it and realized I will always have lung cancer, its so much a part of my new normal that I didn't consider it a disease...just a fact of life. He mentioned that he liked my attitude. Am I just being stupid to feel this way? I know it isn't gone from my "history" and could raise it's ugly head any moment..but I finally have decided not to let it rule my every thought and action. I am having cataract surgery on May 23 and looking forward to "seeing" my life in a different vein. After all, I've lasted over 4 years and I just might make it another 4...this next 4 with a better "outlook". Nina

  19. Pot's Active Ingredient Halts Lung Cancer Growth, Study Says April 19, 2007 - Los Angeles, CA, USA Los Angeles, CA: The administration of THC significantly reduces lung tumor size and lesions, according to preclinical data presented this week at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) in Los Angeles. Investigators at Harvard University's Division of Experimental Medicine reported that THC inhibited the growth and spread of cells in vitro from two different lung cancer cell lines and from patient lung tumors. They also reported that THC administration reduced the growth of lung tumors in mice by more than 50 percent compared to untreated controls over a three-week period. Researchers noted that THC appeared to block a specific cancer-causing protein in a manner similar to the pharmaceutical anti-cancer drugs Erbitux (Cetuximab) and Vectibix (Panitumumab). Results of a large-scale, case-controlled population study published last year found that smoking cannabis, even long-term, is not positively associated with increased incidence of lung-cancer. Investigators in that study noted that one subset of moderate lifetime users had an inverse association between cannabis use and lung cancer, leading them to speculate that cannabinoids may possess certain protective properties against the development of lung cancer in humans. Separate preclinical studies indicate that compounds in marijuana inhibit cancer cell growth in animals and in culture on a wide range of tumoral cell lines -- including human breast carcinoma cells, human prostate carcimona cells, and human colectoral carcinoma cells, among others. Most recently, investigators at Madrid's Complutense University, School of Biology, reported in the British Journal of Cancer that THC administration decreases recurrent glioblastoma multiforme (brain) tumor growth in patients diagnosed with the disease.

    Recovery Time?

I had an upper left lobectomy and slept in a recliner for 4 weeks. I walked some, did a few very light things around the house and rested. At 4 weeks we went to Los Vegas but I was NOT 100%. I am still not 100% but I think most of my breathing problems are from the radiation and chemo I had after surgery. Take your time...rest....rest....rest. Becky had some good advice about the movies. It feels good to laugh even though it hurts..know what I mean? And use your spirometer that they gave you at the hospital. It really helps. Nina
  22. Wooooohoooo. Great news Katie. So glad to hear all is well. Nina
