BeckyCW
Now that I've already posted once (tonight - Update on David C.), guess I'd better introduce myself. I am David C's big (or should I say older) sister, Becky. Also sister-in-law to Karen and proud aunt to Faith. Since I was already 8 when David was born, I remember what fun it was to have a baby brother and to watch him grow up. Well, mostly it was fun -- He WAS a noisy little thing. But then he grew up to be an incredible musician, so even the noises were worth it. He played his trumpet for my wedding march, and I wouldn't trade that memory for the world! I'll also never forget the look on my then-fiance's face when he heard David play for the first time at the rehearsal -- Shock and awe. (One of my first "I told you so" moments - ha!) Anyway, David's diagnosis last March was such a blow, needless to say. He's my LITTLE BROTHER, for God's sake. Nothing is ever supposed to happen to him! (Nothing like this should ever happen to anyone.) Besides that, he and Karen had just brought Faith (and so much joy!) into our family a few months earlier. (Isn't she the cutest, most precious little girl?! Recovering well from her own recent surgery -- GO FAITH!) David told me about this website and I have spent quite a bit of time reading various threads of posts, and I can see that you are an incredible group of people. There is really a lot of love, support, knowledge and life here. For 6 1/2 years now, I've worked for the National Childhood Cancer Foundation, raising money for childhood cancer research. In the past I've also worked for the John Wayne Cancer Institute (twice) and for several other nonprofits since I've been at this kind of work since 1979. Anyway, research to cure cancer has been a big part of my life for over 15 years now. I have been fortunate enough to see a lot of progress over these years, but of course not enough. Until there is a cure for everyone, it's not enough. I'm married to Wayne, we have no children (so I'm even more of a doting aunt), and we have one cat (Allie). We live in a small town near L.A. I saw a post from someone else who said she was ashamed to admit it but she loves living here... I do, too! We absolutely love it -- The only bad thing is being so far away from family -- especially now. In any case, I have volunteered my services in any way they are needed (fundraising/ non-profit management), and I'm looking forward to meeting KatieB this week when she's here. Guess this will do for an introduction. Thank you all so much for being here for each other!

Remembering Dave
Hey Sis!! Welcome aboard. I have to warn you there are some nuts on here (Rochelle!!) you have to watch out for but I think you will have fun. Everybody here is going through the same thing weather they are the actual fighters or caregivers or family members. Thanks for all your wisdom in advance, I feel you have been led in your career to be here just for me and for all of us here. TeeTaa
As a fellow "sister" to a brother diagnosed with this monster, I welcome you to the message board. Yes, I've only been aware of this group for a week or so now, but I'm already wondering what I did before that! Their support is simply amazing. Good luck to you and your entire family. Don Wood
Welcome, Becky! Like the pic. Thanks for sharing about yourself and David. Helps us draw closer to you and family. Cheers. Don
BeckyCW
Rochelle, you have no idea. I'm not sure goof-ball is quite the word, but... Hey, I have a fundraising idea! David, how much would you pay me not to tell stories of your childhood (and teen and young adult) escapades online here? (JUST kidding) I promise never to mention that time your friends brought you home after your first (and I'm sure last) party involving too much alcohol, or that time... oh wait. I'm ruining our chances of raising big bucks, here. Anyway, thanks for the great welcome, everyone. And Snowflake, I love your John Wayne quote. Remembering Dave
Oh Boy, this may have been a mistake bringing you on board. David C
Ry
Oh well, the possiblities here. Maybe we should pay to hear the stories. Maybe you could auction off certain stories. If David wanted them kept confidential he'd have to outbid the high bidder. Yes, David, big error on your part letting the sister in here. Snowflake
Gee, Ry...sure am glad my spouse didn't have time to type much last night! Like a hen on a June bug, as my grampa would have said...
Fay A.
Welcome, BeckyCW. There are around 10 of our members who live fairly close to South Pasadena (Burbank, LaCanada, Los Angeles), as well as some who drive up or down to the LA area for treatment/follow ups. I'm trying to imagine what is must be like to have Dave as a "baby brother". You know, between selling off Bobmc's body part casts, and stories from David C.'s childhood it sounds like we have the beginnings of some serious fundraising proceeds for LCSC. Glad you're here. Connie B
Hey Becky, Welcome to your new nutty family. And, on that note, I would like to start the bidding at..........................$$$$$$$$$ Going Once, Twice, SOLD to the highest Bidder!! Hey David? Don't worry my dear, your not in politics are you? Then it's okay to have a past!! Go ahead Becky, spill the beans! I don't have any brothers, but I sure feel like I have several here at LCSC. Welcome!
Nancy B
Welcome Becky, I live in La Canada and work in Sunland - a 4 year survivor - let me know if you would like to get together sometime. I don't post too often here but I read the posts and everyone is always in my prayers. Nancy
BeckyCW
Yeah, David, big misake. Too late now, though! I've already had quite a few offers privately for good stories -- I think I'm about ready to start making some up and auctioning them to the highest bidder, just for the heck of it. heh heh heh. Fay & Nancy, I'd love to meet you sometime! Need to wait until I'm a little more recovered from some recent throat surgery (nothing serious!) and then it would be great to get together. Everyone, I wish we were all here for some other reason (just about anything would do), but since we're here, I'm proud to be sharing my brother with you. Just how MUCH I share, well... we'll see about that. I may have to consult our other sister for good David stories, to make sure I don't miss any juicy ones... Hey, maybe I could find some naked baby pictures! I will be meeting KatieB tomorrow after work, and am really looking forward to it. I'm not up to staying out as late as I'd like to right now, but at least we can start to talk about fundraising, planning, etc. (Dave, I promise not to take any family pictures to show her... this time.) Tiny
Becky- So neat to have you on board! Sounds like exciting things ahead.
karen335
Becky, This is too cool that you live in CA. Like Fay said there are quite a few of us out here. I live in Corona,CA., but it's not too far to drive. That would be so neat if we could have a meet up. We need it to be close enough that is as convenient as possible for all of us. Maybe once you and KatieB get together and come up with some ideas we can all plan on it and do some serious brainstorming... We can discuss a good place to meet, maybe Pasadena (just a suggestion.) Look forward to meeting everyone soon. Hope the throat thing is not too serious and your on the mend. Take care and you are in my daily prayers... God Bless Karen
BeckyCW
Karen(335), Yes! Let's do plan a So. Calif. get-together soon! Fay needs to be there, too. My surgery was on Jan. 6th, to get rid of frequent and major sore throats (like the kind only vicodin will touch). It's a very rare thing -- I have a birthmark on my face and neck (make-up is a wonderful thing), but it's also INSIDE my throat (very rare) and was causing these sore throats that were getting worse with age. (Yep, gettin' old!) It's a vascular birthmark (they grow as you get older) and has something to do with the autonomic nervous system... I'll leave it at that. Anyway, I went to a specialist (the only one, as far as I know) in Little Rock, of all places. He was terrific. And percocet is terrific, too... but I had to get off it so I could go back to work yesterday, darn it. Your prayers are sure welcome, but save most of them for my brother (DavidC) and all the others here fighting cancer!!! Looking forward to meeting you in person!
