  1. Randi, Hopefully when chemo is over your mom will get back to her normal self. My mom also needed a transfusion during chemo, it is very common. Is your mom on any type of medication for her moods? Sometimes when we get depressed we snap at those we love and itis not easy. Hang in there! And enjoy your adorable son, I LOVE the picture.
  2. Ella, I can only imagine how freaked out and scared you are, waiting is the worst. But remember, like Ginny said, most people get aches and pains. Unfortunately when dealing with cancer that is the first thing that pops into one's head. My parents were copmlaining just the other day that they are having lots of over 50 aches. I am 30, so who knows, maybe I am starting 20 years earlier with mine heehee. Hang in there, good luck and let us know how it goes!
  3. Maryanne, Welcome to the LCSC family, you will find so much support here. There are also some people on this website who live in your neck of the woods. I myself am a former NYer I think it is normal for your husband to be a little depressed, anytime anyone hears cancer, it is normal. Would he consider taking some depression/anxiety medicine to get him through all of this? My dad was firmly against ever taking it, but when my mom was diagnosed, I finally convinced him and both he and my mom started taking meds and it helped. I know that you fear the worst with the chemo, but you will see that it usually is very tolerable. We were surprised with my mom that it was not as bad as we thought it would be. Hang in there!
  4. Tina, Check this out, http://www.kidskonnected.org/chat/chat.htm I know you said the chat was closed, but it appears that the website has specific times when they have chats for the kids. Also the website has a 24 hour phone line where kids can call in. Just a disclaimer--I am not advocating the website, I never used it so I don;t know how good it is, I just came across it when doing some job research and thought it looked neat.
  5. Oy vey Beth, that does not sound like fun! Hopefully your body is just getting used to the drug and the effects will lessen. I remember hearing that it takes some time for the toxicity levels to even out. I guess you are using lots and lots and lots of lotion I dont know if it will help, but Kiehls has an intensive moisturizing lotion, like heavy duty moisture, it feels greasy for a long while after you put it on, but it helped my mom when she had the dryness.
  6. Dave and Karen, I am praying really hard that the peas are just scar tissue!! And if not, that they can zap them out right away without any pain and with lots of ease. I am at a loss for words, you too have been through sooooo much!!!! Keep up the Faith (pun intended)! We are all rooting for you!
  7. Hi. I dont have anything to add other than what has aslready been said. I just wanted to say welcome to this wonderful website, you will get lots of support and information here. Hang in there. I kjnow how tough it is trying to help our parents.
  8. I agree with Heather, the more publicity for lung cancer, the better. Your mesothelioma news website looks great! I know that for meothelioma in particular there are not many resources. Keep up the good work!
  9. I hope Connie's cancer goes bye bye bye bye again real fast!
  10. http://www.kidskonnected.org/ I stumbled across this

    NED NED

Glad to hear that you have nothing up there :) I am a migraine/headache perosn. For me I use a prescription drug called amidrine. Also axert is another good one. The over the counter stuff is like candy for my headaches--probably b/c i had taken it so often.
  14. Beth, Sorry you are having such a hard time with the side effects My mom did not have to have the procedure you did, but for the pain, liquid vicadin helped her. Hang in there, you are almost done! THe finish line is near

  16. I just got an e-mail alerting me that the American Cancer Society catalog is available for on line ordering. When my mom got diagnosed, I had ordered her some head products in case she had hair loss. http://www.tlccatalog.org/default.aspx? ... ode=123104

Jamie, That is awesome news :) I hope Feb scans are all NED! Please keep us posted and when you have a chance, keep in touch!
  18. Glad to see you posting!!! Also your post comforted me in that I am not alone in feelings of "tempting fate", I do that soemtimes lately and I am like b/c I did this and this, so and so will go wrong healthwise. Keep up the clean xrays!!!
  19. Kate, Congrats on a successful surgery!
  20. Hi. I love the picture of your belly!!!!! My mom had carboplatin/gemzar. She tolerated it really well. She did not lose all of her hair, it shedded and I would say 50% was gone, but never to the point of needing a wig. She had the typical nausea and fatigue, but that is to be expected and there are medications to help. Also, don't be alarmed like I was, it is VERY NORMAL to get low blood counts during chemo and need a transfusion, they will continuously be monitoring her blood counts. Keep us posted!!!
  21. We missed seeing your pretty picture!! I am sorry to hear about your dad. I hope they can take care of his brain mets really fast and easy! Here is a website I came across recently which is devoted to kids just like you http://www.kidskonnected.org/ Keep us posted on how your dad is doing!
  22. Cheryl, I take it tomorrow you have a dr appt? I hope it goes well and I hope that they can zap those critters out right away and then you can go back to your clinical trial with ease! Please post tomorrow when you have news
  23. When people refer to treatment they mean each time the patient actually gets chemo, so for your mom, if she is getting chemo week 1 and week 5, the second treatmetn would be week 5. I think hair loss is different for each individual. My mom started "shedding" after her second treatment, but she never lost it all, only half. Are they considering surgery on your mom? Keep us posted on how she is doing and how you are doing. There are a lot of daugthers on here (like me) helping their moms battle
