chloesmom
Ginny, I am so sorry to hear the latest news on Earl. For help, maybe the social worker at the local hospital? I know that when my mother in law became infirmed, social services a the hospital gave us a long list of those people available for all kinds of services, from live-in to go to the grocery store for people. We ended up with a home health care agency that provides live in care, and 8 years later, she still stays in her home with a live-in. Just a thought, but there is help out there. It's always a matter of finding the right match for the situation.
Elaine
Ginny As far as the Food Channel: With my dad it was the Weather channel. Constantly. Family members thought my dad "wasn't there" but if you would sit and watch the Weather Channel with him, I could usually get a conversation going about--you guessed it--the weather. It would then lead to something else, usually. He also spent time with my daughter watching Law and Order reruns. He seemed to love the company of her. I know she cherishes that time with him. No, my dad wasn't always there. But he always was my Dad. Even when he would say something off the wall, it was always something that my dad would say if it was my dad who was off the wall, if you get what I mean. Even before he was in kind of bad shape, he would watch the weather channel a bit more than most people would, which is an understatement. I know you are looking for someone to help out. Pls find someone who will "be" with Earl, when you can't, not just someone who will occupy some space around Earl. I know you probably don't want my advice. But you have it anyway. elaine elaine

Remembering Dave
Ginny, I just saw this post, I had lunch with Dave and he pointed out to me that there is a new General forum and I hadn't seen it so I'm missing stuff. I am so sorry and my heart is breaking, too. I can hardly bear looking at that beautiful photo of the two of you and then read the words on The Duke and all those brain mets and liver mets. I want to come up there and give you both a big hug. Better yet, I want to bring Faith up there so she can give each of you a big wet Faith kiss right on the lips, which is her specialist. She also specializes in huges. Keep us posted, I wish I could really help you. God Bless, Karen C.

dani hobbs
Ginny, I am so sorry to hear about the current course of events in your lives. I do agree with Rochelle that the hospice should provide help to you whenever you need it & that you don't have to wait--that is the function of hospice. Also, by law they have to have a clinical social worker available, whose function is to help get you the services you need & be your advocate & support. Please use them so that you don't exhaust yourself. My thoughts & prayer to you & your husband.
DollyPardonMe
Ginny I'm so sorry to hear this. I would like to say a few words about hospice. My mother had colon cancer over 15 years ago. They were a godsend. They came to the house and checked up on her. Helped Dad with things he couldn't do himself for her. She ended up spending the last 2 weeks in the Hospice wing of our local hospital. In her room was a hide-a-bed that pulled out and a recliner so my Dad was able to spend the entire time with her there at the hospital until she passed. I can't speak highly enough about this organization. May God bless your entire family.

Harn
Ginny, I am so sorry to hear the recent news...damn, this cancer breaks hearts. Please know I don't live too far and would gladly run over and help out in any way. We have Surrey Services in my area which will send in aides to help out/relieve families for a few hours occasionally... I will even offer to babysit in case your daughter wants to run over and visit without kids underfoot. Please consider taking me up on this... Lots of warm thoughts for both you and Earl.
