Reaching Out

Hi Everyone.

I have been visiting the site since 11/03, joined in 03/04, but this is my first post.

You all have been such a blessing to me. I have learned a lot and have felt comforted by the support here.

I'm not sure why it has taken me this long to post. Part of it was a lack of energy (physical and emotional) - fighting cancer is hard work! I would also sometimes have to take a break from reading the messages because I would be overwhelmed with some of the struggles and the passing of some of people here. This disease really sucks!

I am now ready to be an active member of this group.

A little about me- I am now 45. I am married with two sons (ages 20 and 15). I am a nurse specialist for people with diabetes. I'm still working very part-time in the diabetes clinic. I have also been working on my PhD in nursing. I've finished coursework and am getting ready to start on my dissertation.

Thanks to all of you. I hope to be a member of this group for a very long, long, long time.

Jane,

I'm so glad you decided to really test the waters here. The support always seems to go both ways. I have a lung cancer friend that I met from another board, who I had contacted because she lives somewhat near me. I met her for the first time over lunch a few weeks ago and she is doing great on Avastin. The shrinkage has been fantastic and, in fact, they were even talking about surgery. She, like you, was a nonsmoker and I do think that can play a big part. I wish you the very best with your treatment and look forward to your future posts.

Welcome from one Jane to another. Glad you decided to post and let us be of some support to you and in return you will support others which in itself makes you feel better. I guess I dont have to tell you anything about this wonderful family here as you have been reading and have seen for yourself. Welcome and come often!!

God Bless You,

Jane

Welcome although I have only been on this board a short time I have learned a lot. The members are so helpful when you have a question. I thank God every day for this board and I hope you will too. I also participated in the chat last night. I will be trying to do that at least once a week too.

Jane -- welcome. I'm sorry you have to be here, but it sure helps to have a group like this who know what you're going through and CARE, REALLY CARE!

I live in Independence, MO, and both my son and daughter-in-law went to MU. My daughter-in-law, Shelley, received her nursing degree there and worked at the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center for about 4 years.

I'm with Dean. I'm looking forward to your announcement that you have your Ph.D!

Welcome Jane! Sorry I'm so slow to greet you. Sometimes it is tough to get enough time to do more than a quick glance thru so many wonderful topics here, so I hadn't gotten to the Newcomers recently. I hung on the periphery for a long while too, even filled in the registration a couple of times and didn't send it. Go figure....

Anyway you've certainly come to the right place. I tend to focus on NSCLC too, so see you there.

Welcome Janet,

So glad you joined us after "lurking" for some time! Yes, this board can make a person feel overwhelmed sometimes and when this happens I find it is best to take a break. When you come back you feel more able to cope and offer support again. My positive thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Paddy
