I am so sad for your family, I also believe your step-dad can hear what is said to him. He will know he is loved. Barb

  5. P.S. we are really blessed, at least there are bright spots during this cloudy time Barb
  6. Don, We have a wood splitter like your buddy's. We just couldn't get it started! It was bone dry as far as gas. I called our son in Phoenix about 4 times for advice since Rod was napping. Anyway, our friend Howard suggested when Rod is feeling awake they will come again and Rod can advise Howard on how to get it going. I like to run the hydraulics, haven't done it in a few years tho. Barb
  7. This afternoon our best friends (a couple) came over and he cut the wood and we ladies loaded it into the pickup. We got two huge pickup loads up to the barn and unloaded. They offered to come back and try to get the wood splitter going and help me split. They also helped me stack the smaller stuff by the house. This was a job I really wanted to do because we just love to use the wood stove. I am so happy to have such good friends. Plus, they brought home made lasagna and we had a nice meal together, Rod even ate some! Barb
  8. I enjoyed playing, I see I will not LOTS more practice! Barb
  9. I would mention the receptionists behavior to the doctor. You have enough going on without her being rude to you. You are not doing anything wrong to tell someone. When Rod has chemo we are there for 7-8 hours. We forgot the decadron once and had to wait for the Dr. to finish at the hospital to give orders for it in the chemo room. We were there 1 1/2 hours longer than we would have been. I won't forget the decadron ever again. I am hoping everything goes very well for you. Barb

    My Dog Jack and Cancer

Lenny, I too loved reading your story. I absolutely adore dogs. You were truly blessed to have Jack in your life. You made his life better and he probably saved yours. We have a small mix dog from the Humane Society. She really sensed the shock and fear when Rod was dx and we were so different. We and Kasey are better now. I've considered getting another dog for her to have a pal. Her pal, Jack the cat, has moved on to another rural home I think. We haven't seen him in weeks. They were such good buds, the cat would play with Kasey like he was also a dog. Take care and post again Barb
  12. Even though we knew it was coming when my mom died, I think after we all went home, my mind just about shut down. I had a really bad time 6 months later. I called my sister to ask if mom was really gone and she said, "yes". We lived 1500 miles apart so it was like mom was just on vacation. We do all mourn differently, there are no rules. My heart goes out to you, I am so sorry for your loss. Barb
  13. I'm grateful the rain stopped here and the sun came out. The sky is the most incredible blue. I enjoyed mowing yesterday. I mowed a path around the pasture for my dog and I to walk. Barb
  14. I was having the lawyer who updated our wills last spring, before we "knew anything" make up Powers of Attorney, just in case. He thought Rod would "pre-decease" me so we wouldn't need a second person named on his to take over decisions. I said, "I could get hit by a car in the Wal-mart parking lot first". He put the second person in the document!!! Barb
  15. Ken, I'm keeping good thoughts for you. Waiting is horrible, but Kasey is right, if it isn't the best news, having a plan will help you. Being out of control is the worst. Let us know how the tests turn out. Barb
  16. My husband has not missed any work yet and his onc said he encourages people to keep working if they feel like it. We were impressed thinking many doctors would offer to sign the papers to go on leave! Rod is happier working, but I also think it really tires him out. But he knows what his body can take and likes to know he's needed there. Barb
  17. When I answer people that Rod still smokes I am told that I "have to make him stop", oh really and how am I supposed to do that? Does anyone have a good response? I don't want to be nasty but do they really think if I could make him I wouldn't have done that the day I agreed to marry him? Barb
  18. My husband has apologized to me for his cancer (smoker) and I just tell him we are not placing any blame and we are in this together because that is how we do things. He hasn't said anything like that for a long time. He thanks me for being there during chemo and is just so strong (on the outside anyway) Barb
  19. I'm glad you joined us. My husband was diagnosed this summer and my sister found this site for me. It has really helped me find hope and a great place to unload. Please keep checking in so we can all help each other. Barb
  20. I like this thread too. It's been hard to be positive, I thought I was a fairly positive person but find I'm not. Your posts are inspiring me to look more toward the good things during this time. Thanks friends:) Barb
  21. I am so glad I checked this out tonight, I had to laugh at a few and be disgusted by a few. I had to tell my dad, for about the 3rd or 4th time, to quit asking me if Rod has quit smoking (he hasn't) and that dad will be the first to know if he does. Another thing dad keeps asking is,"Is Rod in the hospital"? Why would he be? But he's my dad and I love him. I hope more people post, this has been fun to read. Barb
