  3. Well, gosh Elaine, let me help you out then John Kerry meets with the Queen of England. He asks her, "Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient government? Are there any tips you can give to me since I am running for President?" "Well," says the Queen, "the most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people." Kerry frowns. "But how do I know the people around me are really intelligent?" The Queen takes a sip of tea. "Oh, that's easy. You just ask them to answer an intelligence riddle." The Queen pushes a button on her intercom. "Please send Tony Blair in here, would you?" Tony Blair walks into the room. "Yes, Your Majesty?" The Queen smiles. "Answer me this, please, Tony. Your mother and father have a child. It is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?" Without pausing for a moment, Tony Blair answers, "That would be me." "Yes! Very good," says the Queen. Back at campaign headquarters, Kerry asks to speak with vice presidential candidate John Edwards. "John, answer this for me. Your mother and your father have a child. It's not your brother and it's not your sister. Who is it?" I'm not sure," says the wanna be vice president. "Let me get back to you on that one." John Edwards goes to his advisors and asks every one, but none can give him an answer. Finally, he ends up in the John (men's room) looking for a Republican and recognizes Colin Powell's shoes in the next stall. John shouts, "Colin! Can you answer this for me? Your mother and father have a child and it's not your brother or your sister. Who is it?" Colin Powell yells back, "That's easy. It's me!" John Edwards smiles. "Thanks!" Edwards goes back to Kerry and says. "Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle. It's Colin Powell." Kerry gets up, stomps over to John Edwards, and angrily yells into his face, "No, you idiot! It's Tony Blair!"

Cool, Doug. Great tip. I will certainly try it next time I'm printing out one of my sons school e-books. Gina
  5. From forbes.com http://www.forbes.com/lifestyle/health/feeds/hscout/2004/10/22/hscout521926.html Protein Test May Detect Lung Cancer -- Robert Preidt FRIDAY, Oct. 22 (HealthDayNews) -- Duke University Medical Center researchers have developed a new method to detect differences between normal and cancerous lung tissue. This technique, which measures proteins that are produced in different amounts in healthy and cancerous lung tissue, could potentially be used for diagnosis and treatment of many different kinds of cancer. This Duke team found that their new method, called ADEPPT, can detect proteins in lung cancer tissue that's missed by current conventional methods of protein profiling. "Increasingly, cancer diagnosis and treatment will become dependent upon isolating the proteins responsible for disease and using these proteins to develop targeted therapies aimed at blocking or enhancing them," Dr. Edward Patz, a professor of radiology and pharmacology and cancer biology, said in a prepared statement. "But much of our time is spent on isolating which proteins are relevant to a particular cancer, and if we could speed that process, we may be able to develop new therapies," Patz said. The new technique is described in an article in the Oct. 15 issue of the journal Analytical Biochemistry. More information The American Academy of Family Physicians has more about early cancer detection.
  6. (((((Elaine)))) I'm so sorry for your family's enormous loss. I was just reading her guestbook and it such a testament to a woman that was so obviously loved and adored by her family and all that met her. May God give you all comfort and peace. Gina
  7. Rick, thanks for telling us. I'm so sorry to hear this. She was such a nice lady and I always loved her avatar of her and her husband. So sad to lose another to this. God bless Bonnie's family. Gina
  8. Connie, that is just fantastic progress! He sounds like a delightful and strong-spirited little boy. Thanks for sharing his story with us. He's quite an inspiration for us adults. Love to Austin and Ashley! Gina
  9. (((((Angie))))), I'm so sorry. God bless you and your family. Gina
  10. Heather, my prayers are going out for Peggy.
  11. (((((Laura))))), what a huge loss for you and it sounds like anyone who ever knew your grandfather. I hope you made it through October 20th in one piece and are feeling batter. My grandfather also took the role that my own father never would/could and was the most important man in my life. Sometimes I still miss him so desperately. I'll smell something in the fall air, see an episode of one of his favorite shows, or see a Jadeite coffee cup, and it all comes back so fresh - the difference that time makes is that instead of crying most times that the memories overwhelm me, I smile. Time is a miraculous thing. Thank you for opening your heart to us. I'm thinking of you and saying a prayer for you tonight. Gina

  13. I don't have any craft abilities to contribute, but was thinking about these awesome fundraising plans today and wanted to kick this back to the top to remind everyone and let any new people know about it. KitKathi, are we still looking for recipes? I can certainly contribute some where in that department. Gina
  14. Muriel, Fay's Altamonte Springs suggestion is a very good one - thats my neck of the woods (Seminole County). And Ry, please NO huricane shaped passes! You'll jinx us if you even say hurri-you-know-what and Florida in the same sentence . Connie, tell you grandaughter that I just drove by Mickey's ears and they are still on. No hurri**** is big or bad enough to hurt Mickey - he lives in a Magic Kingdom, you know . Seriously, Muriel if you want the what-for on an area you are interested in, etc. PM me and I'll give you the insider info. Have a great trip and welcome (in advance) to Florida. Gina
  15. Go get your learn on, Doc. Have a safe trip.
  16. teresag, I'm an orange wrench too. where did that come from? My husband has snap-on tools and all of the handles are orange, so that is probably where my brain got the color part of the equation. Gina

  18. Curtis, Curtis, Curtis....there is such a fine line between hopeless romantic and stalker - I think you fall perfectly fine on the romantic side. If you start tiptoeing over the line, we'll let you know. Yeah, why DO they always have storage facilities . I hope you have a fabulous time. I'm sure you will slay (not in the above referenced serial killer fashion) her with your wit, charm, chocolates, flowers, and sharp blue blazer. Have a great time and report back. Gina
  19. Speaking of Flora/Bama neighbors, how did your family come out from Ivan, Nina?
  20. {{{{{Ann}}}}} , I have been thinking, worrying and praying for you since yesterday when I saw Jeanne's projected path. Poor Brevard county (Ann's county for everyone outside of our area) is in the main path once again. I pray that Jeanne will be kinder to you than Frances and Charley. I'm just dumbfounded by it all, but keep trying to tell myself that things could be so much worse, but this sure is a pain in the bu**. Thanks to everyone for their prayers for us storm weary, wet, depressed, & broke, Floridians. And to all of our Flora/Bama neighbors, hope you are all doing o.k. since Ivan. I haven't seen much posting from them and am worried for them still. Gina
  21. Love it. Now THAT is a more realistic take on things. Gina
  22. Dawn, I'm so very sorry for the loss of you wonderful Dad. Gina
